Saw lots of misguided crap signs but racist? just a few. but nothing worse than the crap we saw used against Bush.

Birther stuff isn't racist it's just silly.
Muslim stuff isn't racist it's just dumb.
a few of the african signs crossed the line.
a couple other folks I saw sure they crossed that line.
Guess what racists glom onto causes the same way destructive social anarchists glom onto causes. The same way the old communists glommed onto the environmental movement after the fall of communism.
Nothing you can do except ignore them and hope they go away before they draw too much attention away from the message.

OR

You can actively toss them out and have that be the story rather than the cause you are fighting for. Which is what the NAACP wants the story to be about.
They want the evening news to be about the racists rather than the pork spending and the increased government taxation and increased government power.

Well lets see the history of the Tea party not that Bullshit you want to pass off as their history is that a mother started talking about protesting the porkulous package by sending in a tea bag and it grew for months and months being just about that exact issue. after some time the birthers and other groups joined the party the way any group of immature frat brothers join whatever party happens to be present.

Given the fact that these signs have been seen on various news reports, and the fact that the Tea Party movement has shown a racist tendency, do you really expect anything different.

The Tea Party is for White Anglo Saxon America.  If you aint white then you dont count.

coopted not yet but with the help of the left they sure as hell keep trying to do it.
And if they do it will be because the left drew them into it not at the invitation of the tea party.

The more often the nutjobs get the press the more of them will come to glom onto the Tea Party because the Tea Party was actually getting traction.

The problem with any success is that folks steal it from you.

Have they been coopted yet nope because even if you buy the NAACP's full line it says ELEMENTS.
even though you want to make it the predominant force so you can dismiss the protest entirely, at least they recognize that it is elements. and really when you show the entire spectrum of signs the racist and even the birther signs are in the minority within the movement.

I think that the tea party is nostalgic for more than just racism. They probably miss stuff like nuclear families, housewives, kids who don't take half naked pictures for their myspace, children being raised by 2 parents, heteronormativity, family owned businesses, working class factory jobs, abortion being illegal, people going to church on Sundays, being able to look up at the stars without seeing a neon corporate logo, etc.

And yeah, they probably miss default white supremacy, but I genuinely believe if Barack Obama's agenda was to try to recreate that ideal Americana, he wouldn't be called out on his race.

It seems to be the ideal America for some people. And it describes 50's America pretty well, a time when the US was unquestionably the strongest, richest, most advanced nation in the world.

Heteronormativity is the idea that straight is the "default" orientation in everyone and that anyone who isn't straight is strange.

What is interesting is why they were not upset about Bush and his spending. 

What is interesting is this movement only started after Obama became President.

What is interesting is that the teabaggers blame Bush's policies on Obama.

Just like you did on a recent thread, claiming Obama was nationalizing the banks and automakers when TARP was all Bush and the GM bailout began by Bush using TARP funds after Congress refused to step in.

You can make a legitimate argument whether Obama should be continuing Bush administration policies, but when it is claimed Obama is trying to turn this into a socialist country the argument becomes ridiculous pretty quickly.
