jlf1961 -> USDA to reconsider ousting of worker over race charges (7/20/2010 11:31:50 PM)

quote:

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said early Wednesday that his department will reconsider the ouster of an employee who resigned over alleged race comments.

His statement came after civil rights leaders said they were "snookered" into believing a conservative website's charges of racism against employee Shirley Sherrod were true.

Vilsack said that he will "conduct a thorough review and consider additional facts" about his decision to ask Sherrod to resign.

NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous said Tuesday that the group was "snookered" into believing that Sherrod expressed racist sentiments at a local NAACP meeting in Georgia earlier this year.

Full story here.

Rachel had a good piece on her show about FOX NEWS LIES covering this “discrimination” and Rachel criticized the administration for believing all of Fox News lies.

Fox news fabrication works again!

I hope Shirley Sherrod sues the hell out of Fox and Andrew Breitbart and that the FCC smacks the shit out of Fox.

I don't care what a person/s political beliefs are but to completely fabricate a story and pass it off as factual news is wrong. Especially when it slanders an individual and most especially when it is so obviously racially motivated. I also hope there is an investigation into her USDA chain of command that pushed her into resigning without investigating the story before tossing her under the bus.

I also hope that the people that watch Fox and assume there is any basis of fact in their 'reporting' let Fox know it is unacceptable and that they will stop watching the channel if they cannot behave ethically.

Owner59 -> RE: USDA to reconsider ousting of worker over race charges (7/21/2010 7:39:47 AM)

Hope so.

What happened to her was just plain wrong.

jlf1961 -> RE: USDA to reconsider ousting of worker over race charges (7/21/2010 7:40:55 AM)

LaTigresse, do you really think that FOX News cares about facts?

And you are right, someone at the USDA should have checked the information better before throwing Sherrod to the wolves.

However, in this time of Political Correctness, no one wants to take the chance of being called on the carpet for anything resembling racism.

If she had not been asked to resign, people would be making a big fuss about that too. It is the world we live in, no one wants to give anyone the benefit of doubt.

Hillwilliam -> RE: USDA to reconsider ousting of worker over race charges (7/21/2010 7:43:34 AM)

If she was white, she would have not been given a (justly deserved) chance to come back.

No I don't but I do think that the people that watch it should care.

The ONLY overt racisn that is allowable (even encouraged) in the US is against white, straight males.

I have literally been told to my face that I was the most qualified applicant for a job but I wasnt going to get it because of my race and I didnt have a leg to stand on.

Can any minority say that?

Yes, most of them, for hundreds of years.

Except they didn't get the speech.

There was a book called "black like me" in which a journalist chemically changed his skin color and had his hair curled and passed as black to do the research for his book. If you were to read it and follow his directions for changing your appearance you could be black for a few months. Try it and see if your opinion of race relations in amerika change. The dye is not perminant and the hair will grow out so you can go back to being white.
Lets say you and I go to the post office to get a job and you score 9 points higher than me on a 100 point test. I get the job because I have a preference because of my military service. Is that racism? If a person of color gets the job because they have a preference due to aa is that racism? It is the law that our congress passed to address certain inequities that existed in the past. For me the fact that a significant portion of my life was spent in the military the congress singled my class out to have a preference just as congress singled out certain miniorities for preference baised on past inequities. When the inequities cease then the preferences will cease when those previous inequities have been addressed.

No one should be discriminated against because someone in the past discrminated against someone else. AA is a racist policy, and you cant defend as anything but justified racism. And when you try and defend it as justified, you will find yourself unable to do so.

Ever heard that 2 wrongs dont make a right?

Alternatively the little parable about the son paying for the sins of the father, or great great great grandfather.or maybe someone that wasnt even related.

Back to the point I made. Have you got the balls to be black in amerika? Of course not you do not even have the balls to be white in amerika. All you can do is whine about how the blacks have every thing and poor lil me cant even get a job. For fucks sake grow a pair and learn how to do something besides push a broom.

Difference being I never said there is only one kind of racism currently in existence. There are all forms of it, everywhere if you look hard enough, against all races.

If you aren't able to recognize that yourself, I can't help.

I'd appreciate that you dont consider me as a perpetrator of any wrongs now because my ancestors were discriminated against. I live in the now.
