Do you really think that the conservatives and tea party members of this forum really care the guy blatantly made false accusations?

They still think that Obama is the next Hitler, although I have yet to see any concentration camps set up, minorities rounded up, or even white anglo saxon protestants rounded up.

You have no clue what most of the conservatives feel about anything. Who are you trying to kid here?

I know only what I read in posts put forth by people who claim to be conservatives, tea party members and I dont believe that one of them is going to say that a right wing journalist released something that was edited to make someone look bad.

They will defend this guy to their last breath, even though the proof of what he did, why he did it is as plain as the noses on their faces.

Breibart is a LIAR.
Chris Mathews did a good job telling the truth showing Newt Gingrich and others.

I find it so hard to care about this. I don't care if this woman did something to some guy 24 years ago and I don't care if some pundit cut off the video.

I guess I hope she gets her job back but idk the first thing about her except that she has a very pretty sounding name.

This helps explain it correctly too.

NAACP Retracts Shirley Sherrod Statement, Says It Was "Snookered" by Fox News, Andrew Breitbart - VIDEO

When news first broke about apparent racially charged comments made by former Department of Agriculture employee Shirley Sherrod, the NAACP backed her departure from the agency.

Sherrod served as director of rural development in Georgia until she came under fire for remarks she gave at an NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet on March 27. A video of a portion of her remarks were posted on conservative commentator and editor Andrew Breitbart's biggovernment.com site, giving the impression that Sherrod admitted to discriminating against a white farmer.

"Racism is about the abuse of power. Sherrod had it in her position at USDA. According to her remarks, she mistreated a white farmer in need of assistance because of his race," NAACP President Benjamin Jealous said in a statement at the time.

But tonight, the NAACP has changed is mind as the full context of the original remarks was revealed -- including the fact that the incident in question happened 24 years ago (before she worked for the USDA) and the farmers involved have praised Sherrod's efforts on their behalf, calling her a "friend for life."

"With regard to the initial media coverage of the resignation of USDA Official Shirley Sherrod, we have come to the conclusion we were snookered by Fox News and Tea Party Activist Andrew Breitbart into believing she had harmed white farmers because of racial bias," a new statement from Jealous released on Tuesday night said.

"Having reviewed the full tape, spoken to Ms. Sherrod, and most importantly heard the testimony of the white farmers mentioned in this story, we now believe the organization that edited the documents did so with the intention of deceiving millions of Americans," the statement added.

The NAACP statement called for Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to reconsider his decision to fire Sherrod, while adding that "we understand why Secretary Vilsack believes this false controversy will impede her ability to function in the role."

Finally, the civil rights group called this episode a "teachable moment, for activists and for journalists."

"The NAACP has a zero tolerance policy against racial discrimination, whether practiced by blacks, whites, or any other group," the statement said. "Most Americans agree that racism has no place in American Society. We also believe that civil and human rights have to be measured by a single yardstick. The NAACP has demonstrated its commitment to live by that standard."

I don't think it is going to amount to anything. Who took part and actually had the power to do anything?

Time will tell, but on the surface it looks like a fairly empty story/conspiracy.

I have been watching the news coverage tonight of this story, and I was angry and disgusted listening to O'Reilly, Dick Morris, Breitbart, Hannity, and some of the other right wing ideologues back pedal the shit out of their nonsensical positions. Then I log on here to see what some of the resident CM conservative and Tea Party supporters might be saying. I am not surprised to see your post deflecting the blame and trying to legitimize that asswipe Breitbart. I am not surprised, but I am disappointed.

DomKen -> RE: Here`s The Cocksucker Who Did It (7/21/2010 10:16:03 PM)

See Firm do what every right wing news source did. No acknowledgement, no self reflection just a pivot to the next target to have mud slung at it.

If we let them they're going to pretend this never happened and when the heat dies down Breitbart will come back with a new and improved attack on the NAACP.

Her father was murdered when she was 17 and the grand jury refused to indict the white man who killed her father.

“skip ahead to 16:30 for the segment about the white farmer and stick with it until at least 24:00 or so. She actually introduces the story by saying how she started working in order to help black people but then, through divine providence, came to realize that she was meant to work for poor people generally.”

We wanted it and now we’ve got it. Forty-three minutes and 15 seconds. I haven’t had time to watch all of it — the full clip will be crowdsourced in the comments, I’m sure — but skip ahead to 16:30 for the segment about the white farmer and stick with it until at least 24:00 or so. She actually introduces the story by saying how she started working in order to help black people but then, through divine providence, came to realize that she was meant to work for poor people generally.

The key moment comes just after the 21:00 mark when she talks about how helping the Spooners “made me see that it’s really about those who have versus those who don’t. You know, and they can be black, they can be white, they can be Hispanic.”

And the crowd murmurs its assent. From there she segues into a historical narrative about racism being an artificial construct manufactured by wealthy interests to keep lower-class blacks and whites divided when in fact they should be working together. Exit question: How long before Vilsack gives her her job back?

Update: From the comments: “So she’s a Marxist not a racist. She belongs in the cabinet!”

Update: I meant to mention this earlier but forgot about it after getting sidetracked with something: There is an edit in the tape right around 21:00, as plain as day. It doesn’t look like a major one since it comes in the course of her telling her story about the farmer, but why is it there at all?

Update: Tapper answers my last question: “NAACP says the tape was changed at the 21:00 mark. no edits, just a tape change.” It is indeed almost exactly at the midway point of the video.

LadyEllen -> RE: Here`s The Cocksucker Who Did It (7/22/2010 12:18:40 AM)

So a story that was obviously concocted from the start about the alleged racism of some black woman is revealed in a matter of a day or so to be a story about the clear racism of a right wing nut and the not so very latent racism of his colleagues who were so obviously delighted to engage with the affair in itself, let alone what with the wider message about "them durned n--------s" being in positions of authority.

Disgusting. Stupid. Incompetent. Typical of the modern right.

Republicans, conservatives, tea partiers - call yourselves what you will but if you have any sense at all you will disassociate from amongst you these nutjobs and fools before they sink your boat forever. That means chuck them out wherever and whenever they are found or reveal themselves, not deny them to be anything to do with you.

More long term its exactly what I said in 2008 - that you would be going into the wilderness and would not return until you had fixed what went wrong, exactly as what happened to the UK Labour party from 1979 to the mid 1990s when left wing nutjobs attempted and for a time succeeded in taking over the party. It took Labour a good 12 years to reorganise and reposition to become electable.

Breitbart is by now a known quantity (or maybe I should say quality). I expected there would turn out to be something snaky about this. What really shocked me was seeing her thrown under the bus so freaking fast based on something that came from such a questionable source without so much as a shred of investigation or even the courtesty of bothering to listen when she explained that the remarks were being portrayed out of context.

When Fox News comes out with a 'story', its best and wise, to double, triple, and quadruple check every ounce of information. I use Media Matters, as they usually nail all the lies, misinformation and conspiracies coming from that 'news' station.
