I also learned that this CM can be cliquey as hell which is sad

I will respectfully disagree. I have learned that what often appears as 'cliquishness' is simply people who often agree with each others' views, or at least know each other well enough to share a laugh. Closer observation reveals that they don't always agree, and said 'cliques' often both form and dissolve within a single thread. I can and have sided with posters that I cannot stand personally, because I think they are right on a particular issue. I have also disagreed with people I am close to, because I think that (at a given moment) they are full of shit.

When I first got here, I was quite intimidated by the regulars and was mostly a lurker. Back then, I might have even used the word 'clique'. Then I discovered P&RS and started to get to know people. It was amazing how fast I was accepted, and how many people went out of their way to make me feel welcome. That's when I realized that what looks like a clique is often just folks who know each other quite well, but also warmly welcome most newcomers. Cliques are, by definition, exclusive. I just don't think the definition fits.

munches are often labelled 'cliques' also.

perhaps off topic here? however maybe a conversation that has been 'done to death'.. no idea.

I often redirect people that mail me.. to local munches, most responses are..oh yes I went once,

didn't like it, people ignored me/no one introduced me/ I never met a domme/dom there.

you can lead a horse to water..

Allie, Wyld, please please please can we keep this positive? I feel like we need some happy after the last few days, you know?

Another thing I've picked up, although it's not quite so tangible: I leave a lot more space in my play now. That's partially inspired by your avatar, Wyld-you look so peaceful, so still. I spend more time aiming for peace and stillness now. Maybe part of that is just growing up, but I'm also blaming you for making me realise it was something to aim *for*

One thing i learned a while ago is that if a woman is demanding and/or stern, wears stilletoes, boots, and/or a corset, the she MUST be a domme. Best nugget of information i have recieved hands DOWN.(Wyld- i believe you should know what i'm talking about. lol)

Yes I'm definitely struggling to find a place here recently but for the most part I love it here. My Master enjoys finding new punishments, I believe he found one somewhere on CM a while back about shoving ginger root up a slaves ass that he keeps threatening on me. I heard it first thing this morning when he began thinking of punishments for my recent outburst.

Don't sweat it, Chrisincuffs. It'll be okay. Just keep posting, be who you are and things will work out as they are meant to.

Now, as far as ginger being a punishment.. for me it's a treat! ::grins::

Figging as a Long History as a Punishment...... So does Flogging.

See what she is saying?

For some of us Punishment IS Pleasure.

Figging
Figging. I love that word. It's almost lyrical. Figging, figging, figgingfiggingfigging....

It's another thing in the ideas pot, but I don't think I can attribute that one to CM.

But I do love the word.

Figging....

Yeah by the way juju, thanks for that. And by 'thanks' I mean 'if I ever catch you I'll beat your ass black and blue for bringing that up.'

Oh yeah, I also learned that some things you might consider a deterrent just eggs certain people on.

I learned of dolcett, googled it, got to a dolcett site, and then it still asked if I reeeeaally wanted to see it?? I decided to decline. I bet I'm better off.
------------------------
I learned there there actually were people who did wiiwd and they are not deranged and/or psychopathic (most of 'em!). That there are people who can play ethically and safely.
---------
I am enjoying the education and looking for worward to learning more both academically and with experience.

Great thread idea!!

Heh, you really are better off hlen. At least in my opinion.

Just remembered the biggest one I learned after hanging around CM. I used to think Safe, Sane and Consensual was the one twue way or whatever. All that do no harm philosophy etc. It was a threat where someone bitched me out and pointed out the whole RACK philosophy. More like mentioned it, leaving me to wonder what the hell that was. And that whole wiitwd acronym. Most. Annoying. Acronym. Evar! Well no, wwajd might be more annoying come to think of it.

Anyhow, there have been many different view points, ideas and philosophies that I'd never come across in spite of my 'years of experience'.

i personally have learned a lot. Details on certain things. Understandings to questions that even my Dom may not have known the answer too. I am intrigued by learning new things. And the dynamics of our relationships we have differ so much that you learn new things. i really enjoy having CM to come to when i have a question in my head that needs an immediate answer.

Something I learned from CM....

No One knows what an Acronym is.

They call EVERYTHING Acronyms.

However Acronyms are actual words that can be said and recognized where each letter stands for something.

SCUBA = Self Contained Underwater Breathing Appratus
LASER = Light Amplification By Stimulated Emission Of Radiation
AEGIS = Advanced Electronic Guidance And Instrumentation System
AIDS = Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
SIDS = Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
RACK = Risk Aware Consentual Kink

Each of these Acronyms can be said in a single word without saying each individual letter.

Now:

BDSM = Bondage Discipline Sadism Masochism (Or Sadomasochism but that would not make it accurate)
SSC = Safe Sane Consentual
IDK = I Don't Know
WIITWD = What It Is That We Do
IMO = In My Opinion
IMHO = In My Humble Opinion
IMOHO = In My Own Humble Opinion
IMLSWIO = I My Lowly Submissive Worthless Insignificant Opinion (I heard this one in a Gorean Chat Room)

The above are all Initialisms

Here is an easy chart to remember the difference.

Like useing the word Irregardless.... just a pet peeve on mine.

I could never get both of those things, Allie.  They don't make stilettoes in my size, anyway.

OP

Me, I've learned colossal amounts here.  Pretty much everything, in fact, other than the 'sub desire' which I've had since I was a kid.  Not the techniques - I don't much care about them - or even the kinks.  The feelings behind it all.  A lot about what makes me tick and a little bit - but still only a little bit - about what makes Dommes tick.  (I don't care about Doms or other malesubs because I don't fancy them. )

And all the categories, the language, the 'ideology' of BDSM . . . .  Regards that, I've realised that a certain educators' maxim relates.  This is: what they carefully teach you at school, they just as carefully un-teach you at university.  Likewise, I've reached that stage, here.  The great categories of Sub, Dom/me, Master, Slave, Switch . . .  I've carefully constructed my personal 'A level textbook' on what it all means . . . and now I'm at the point where I'm deconstructing it.

A lot of it is a crock.  But, the point is, you have to learn it all carefully, first, before you can unlearn it - just the same as any subject you do at school then pursue at college.  I shall become increasingly cynical, at the same time as becoming more straightforward and simple about things.  That's how it's always gone in any subject I've studied and I don't expect BDSM to be any different.

I'd hazard a guess that I've learned more here than I did on my first degree.  Specifically here, too - not any other BDSM site.  This is my BDSM Alma Mater.  So: infinite thanks, CM.

And . . . . I've had 'outside classes for special students' as well.  The provider of those is now a great friend - she knows who she is. I met her through CM, too.  Wake up, Ferns, I'm talking about you!  And happy birthday, hon.
