We either accept them all as US citizens, giving amnesty, something i am very much against. Or we send them back home. Any other decision is picking and choosing who are the has (those who stay) or the has nots (those who leave). My kneejerk reaction is to tell them all to go home. But that's just wrong, when I think about it. We do, I think, in the end, have to pick and choose. The guy who has been here 20 years, stayed out of trouble, supported himself, raised children who are American citizens and who are now having babies of their own who are American citizens. I think we have to give that guy a pretty easy path to permanent legal resident status, maaaaybe even citizenshio. The illegal alien who found a way to serve in our armed forces and pulled a tour in Iraq? I'd be proud to be at his citizenship ceremony. The guy with multiple criminal convictions? I don't care how long he's been here... goodbye. The guy who's been here two years... adios. The folks who have been here ten years, most taking advantage of social/medical services... we just cannot afford them. Something along those guidelines, in my opinion. But if there are twelve million illegal aliens, there are twelve million stories... Ok, but the guy that has been here two years could be just as law abiding otherwise. And the guy who has been here 20 may just not have been caught yet at drug smuggling.
