But you don't, you don't respect my right to believe whatever I like. I have a different position than you on this and you are intolerant of my position.

okay, if the theory of gravity has not been proven, why is it I fall down instead of up?

There is gravity, but they do not know why it works... if that makes any sense

jlf1961 -> RE: The Theory of Intelligent Falling (7/24/2010 8:56:32 PM)

Okay, they dont know why gravity works, then how do they know it is gravity? Could it be something else?

Just a second, I need to get my pirate hat for this.....

Whatever "it" is that keeps shit from falling off the planet, they named it gravity... they have not figured out why it works... now take that up with the people who study this stuff, cause I honestly don't know as I don't do the math

jlf1961 -> RE: The Theory of Intelligent Falling (7/24/2010 9:03:55 PM)

May I point out that gravity didnt affect the road runner?

"The theory of Intelligent Falling holds that Newtonian gravity is a blasphemous lie concocted by evil anti-theistic scientists, and that objects fall because God an Intelligent Puller is pulling them down.[4] This intuitive theory is based on the observation that if falling was truly random — as gravity suggests — each thing would independently fall in a different direction, and the odds of everything falling down are astronomically slim." http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Intelligent_Falling

Not as much as it impacted the coyote, but he had more mass

Edited to add, do road runners fly?

Actually, road runners can fly for short distances.

Perhaps this explains it?

The coyote got the help from ACME... which according to some conspiracy theorists was actually owned by the road runner.

You know, I can see how this rumor got started, ACME is kinda like the KBR of Looney Tunes

My theory/intuition is this:

For years, one of the great arguments the science camp would use to debate the creationists was this: 'OK sure- *technically*, by a very narrow definition, evolution is 'a theory'. But guess what, so is gravity. Gravity is just a theory too. Yet, we understand how it works, we know what circumstances it operates under, we have lots of evidence for it, and we sure don't go floating into space if we're not holding onto something. Evolution, we have just as much evidence for.'

I think this Intelligent Falling/gravity is not really understood perfectly thing is now just a way for the creationists to pathetically, weakly, tear a hole in not the logic (they cant do that) but the popular conception of gravity, by throwing doubts out there. If people start questioning scientists' grasp on gravity and losing trust in the idea, it paves the way to people to start questioning scientists' grasp on evolution and lose trust in that idea.

The sad and really infuriating thing is not so much the creationists' idiocy, lack of basic science education and logic, as much as it is the fact that this is all really a fight over popularity and control over ideology and what the masses think. Really, the creationists want legitimacy for their views and to be respected more by most educated people than they are (this is why they repackaged their beliefs a bit with 'intelligent design').

And what's with this bizarre, irrational idea that if a thing happens despite its chances being very slim, statistically improbably, that somehow means it's proof of a 'god'? Or of 'god's actions occurring? I never got that- even looking at it from the theist/religious perspective- if an omnipotent, omnipresent god exists, why would he *go out of his way* to make things occur that don't abide by the laws of science? Why not just let it all happen according to a normal statistically probability, according to the laws of the universe, and do something that unequivocably proves his existence. I mean if everything *else* happens according to scientific principles, why would gravity alone be an exception to these principles?

Nothing that 'god' does- in this thinking- makes any sense.

Physicists know EXACTLY how gravity works.

Does it involve Gravitons?

Let me clarify my statement - I don't believe it is necessary to understand the quantum mechanism of gravity in order to validate the truth of General or Special Relativity. Whether gravitons could ever be proved to exist or not would be irrelevent to the larger point I was trying to make. I will be more careful in making absolutist proclamations in the future.

Higher level consciousness? You mean god and you cannot bring yourself to say the word. wtf?

Vincent you are clearly not understanding some important tenants of Intelligent and it's superior sister theory Unintelligent Design.

First of all it's imperative that one never use the G word. If you do it's not science according to the Supreme Court. So one must always remember to use a science-ish sounding phrase of identical meaning, doing so makes it a valid scientific theory!

Second, use as many really big words as possible. People will think you know what you're talking about and believe you. If you don't actually know what the words mean, that's completely OK just repeat the phrases used by people who know what they are talking about.

Third, say it's a valid scientific theory as many times as possible, if most people hear that enough times they will believe it. It OK to lie about this because our faith proves that we are right about God...cough...cough...uhm I didn't say that, what I meant is that it proves we are right about the Unintelligent Designer.
