"Fade To Black"
- Metallica

Songwriters: Burton, Clifford Lee;Hammett, Kirk L;Hetfield, James Alan;Ulrich, Lars

Life it seems will fade away
Drifting further everyday
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free

Things not what they used to be Missing one inside of me
Deadly loss this cant be real
Cannot stand this hell i feel
Emptiness is filling me To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me but now, hes gone

No one but me can save myself, but its too late
Now i cant think, think why i should even try

Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death greets me warm, now i will just say goodbye

Goodbye

You'll listen to This song differently when you look up what it's about.

Nine Inch Nails -- La Mer

Et quand le jour arrive
Je deviendra le ciel
Et je deviendrai la mer

Et la mer viendra pour m'embrasser pour moi
Vais à la maison

Rien peut m'arrêter maintenant

and when the day arrives
I'll become the sky
and I'll become the sea

and the sea will come to kiss me
for I am going home

nothing can stop me now

It is very moving, even without the lyrics.

I think it may even be more moving as an instrumental.

As far as Pink Floyd goes for me it is the obvious:
quote:

Good bye cruel world
I'm leaving you today
Good bye. Good bye. Good bye.

Good bye all you people
There's nothing you can say
To make me change my mind.
Good bye.

I also like Into The Ocean by Blue October
Then there is the ever popular Country Death Song by the Violent Femmes
For some reason I always associate Pink Moon by Nick Drake with suicide. Maybe because it is my favorite Nick Drake song and he committed suicide.

Shhhhh, you'll attract HK in here and then it is going to become about if Pink Floyd or the Beatles were more versatile.

Actually now that I think about it, it's a pretty close call.

Actually I can't recall the Beatles doing any suicidal songs, but someone who listened to them killed John Lennon, so I guess it counts just the same.

samboct -> RE: Suicide songs (8/24/2010 2:20:28 PM)

How about "Alone again, naturally" Gilbert O'Sullivan. It can sound a bit upbeat till you actually listen to the lyrics....

Alphascendant -> RE: Suicide songs (8/24/2010 2:49:08 PM)

Heroin by Lou Reed

Wow. Do not forget one of the most beautiful songs about one of the most beautiful artists ever, Vincent Van Gogh.

High Hopes, by Pink Floyd

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun

Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut

There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder

Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide

At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world

Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river

Forever and ever

And "The Trace of Things That Have No Words" by Blaze Bayley

Nothing can numb this pain, nothing can fill this void
Nothing can heal this wound, nothing can hide this scar
Nothing is what I have, nothing is all that's left
Nothing is what I am, if I am without you
Looking down at my feet, why do they move at all?
Looking down at my hands, why do they work at all?
I hear the words I speak, why can I speak at all?
If I can't speak to you, why can I speak at all?

I won't give up this pain, the pain of what I lost
I don't want to be healed, why do they even try?
Pain is all I have left to tell me this was real
Pain is the only thing left I can feel

My scars I show you know, my scars
They prove my life was real, my scars
Here on my face, here on my arms
Lines from a play, you were the star
You see them now, you see my truth
The way I lived, I lived for you
These scars proved my life was real

Now you can see my face, now you can hear my words
Now can you understand how I traced out my world?
Why must I face this life? Why am I here alone?
Where did the future go? Why am I here alone?

My scars I show you know, my scars
They prove my life was real, my scars
Here on my face, here on my arms
Lines from a play, you were the star
You see them now, you see my truth
The way I lived, I lived for you
These scars proved my life was real

Damn it, Rose. By Don Henley

Maybe just a good night's sleep
Would have changed your troubled mind
From that rather permanent decision
So tragic, so unkind
Now, pain is what you've given
And sleep is what you'll get
So far away from that sweet baby child
Who hardly knew you yet
Now he'll grow up to be a fighter
Full of anger, full of shame
Like all the other haunted children
Who wonder why they came
And he'll be in and out of trouble
Until he stands up or he falls
But there will always be a shadow there
No matter how it goes
Damn it, Rose
Is this another cryptic message
Or some kind of cosmic quiz
If there's a lesson to be learned from this
Well, I don't know what it is
You could have given us the finger
Much more constructively than that
Now I sit here with the MTV
And your bloated, Burmese cat
We're being treated to the wisdom
Of some puffed up little fart
Doing exactly what I used to do—
Pretentions to anarchy and art
He speaks the language of a warrior
He mounts his misinformed attack
He wears the clothes of a dissenter
But there's a logo on his back
And it's a hollow rebellion
As rebellions mostly are
It's just another raging tempest in a jar
And the seasons keep on changing
And the wind blows hot and cold
Wish that you were here with us to watch this tide
As it ebbs and flows
Damn it, Rose

I was wondering when someone was going to mention Jeremy.

FWIW the lyrics to "Suicide is Painless" "

Through early morning fog I see
visions of the things to be
the pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see...

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

I try to find a way to make
all our little joys relate
without that ever-present hate
but now I know that it's too late, and...

Suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

The game of life is hard to play
I'm gonna lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
so this is all I have to say.

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
and to another give my seat
for that's the only painless feat.

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

A brave man once requested me
to answer questions that are key
'is it to be or not to be'
and I replied 'oh why ask me?'

'Cause suicide is painless
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
...and you can do the same thing if you choose.

Painlessly,
Some Knucklehead in NJ
