Actually, I am proud of making my point, and it was a point well made. When I mentioned slavery, it was not to go on a 40 page dissertation about why President Lincoln freed the slaves. I am able to debate, make my point, and once it is made, move on. I can even answer your little nasty and insulting post on a positive note. I am well aware of those on here that enjoy putting others down in order to make themselves feel and look bigger. I am glad I am usually able to rise above such individuals. Good day to you!

I am going to say this as nicely as possible. For some reason you took offense to the fact that movements of "radical" people change the status quo, not politicians (like Lincoln) and not political parties.,... who usually try very hard to maintain the status quo... as is evident in how Lincoln TRIED to compromise on slavery, but couldn't. I am just pointing out, no moderate ever gave the American people anything. Ours is a history of fighting against the status quo for more rights....

They are standing "against" something, namely Barack Obama... they aren't for anything really. And they are not even a grassroots movement

Yep,radical,rebellious southerners for all intents and purposes freed the slaves when they fired on Fort Sumpter in 1861...thereby igniting the inferno that consumed the nation,and with it the institution of slavery.Lincoln got credit as the "great emancipator" despite his oft repeated assertions that he would never molest ,nor tinker with rights guarenteed by the Constitution.....specifically the institution of slavery. Some childhood myths must be retained despite all the evidence to the contrary....in my eyes his greatness was in preserving the Union.Admitting that Lincoln would have kept blacks in bondage were that necessary to achieve the preservation of Union seems to be disconcerting to some....but by his own words it is undeniably true. But this is all a hijack...and I apologise for that.

Radical is how they are presented in many instances, and Republicans are falling as well as Democrats. But keep your eyes fastened on Obama. That way you can ignore the rest.

I also enjoy debating and chatting with people with diametrical points of view, as long as we can remain civil. I totally agree that people like John Brown, were instrumental in leading the charges to end slavery, and that it almost always takes wars, protests, or revolutions to initiate changes in governments. Like I always say, "The next revolution WILL be televised!" And, as I have been saying for a couple of years, the next big revolution in America will more than likely be between the have's and the have not's as we continue to spiral into the looming depression. I anticipate a great many events to occur as many that used to be middle class continue to spiral downwards. Those that participate in the next big revolution will be a very eclectic group indeed. Liberals will be joined by moderates, conservatives, and every ethnic group under the sun to protest their economic conditions. The working poor that I saw living in motel rooms last night, included every ethnic group indeed. A caveat though, there will be people in both parties involved in the next big revolution, people find common grown during bad times like a depression, and have a lot more in common than they usually would. The next big revolution will be televised, on the internet, tweeted, facebooked and we will even be able to watch it on our smart phones.

Couldn't one say that although radicals initiate change, it is the power elites (e.g., politicians -- 99.99% moderately conservative) who ratify and institutionalize it? So, although the abolitionists created the social and political momentum to end slavery, it was politicians who ended slavery as a de jure societal norm. Doesn't any movement that changes a society in some way ultimately become identified as the status quo (i.e., moderation)?
