But more to the point, you make posts about the beauty of the area you live in and post pictures of the nature you enjoy. How would you feel if this happened in your backyard and was being minimized? Because it is happening in my backyard and I don't appreciate the attempts to downplay the impact of what happened and is still happening.

I'm with rml, its in my back yard and I resent people saying its over-exaggerated. Or that call this whole thing a hoax for political reasons. Oil companies wanted to drill in deep waters. They showed us how much research they did to be qualified to do that job. In my opinion, they failed.

There are fires here, mud slides, all kinds of disasters. But nature is resilient, which is the point of the OP and thankfully this isn't nearly as bad as all the gloom and doom environmental fundies had hoped that it would be. Nature recovers.

Obama golfed and partied and vacationed and totally dropped the ball on the spill but the Press didn't go after Obama anything like they did with Bush and Katrina. Yes, some was removed, some was dispersed, and some was taken care of by nature, but I think it is naive to believe a spill of this size just suddenly vanished. And my worst fear is it is below the surface and will get picked up by the currents and brought around to the east coast.

Theres nothing "magically" about it. Its being destroyed by the heat and the microbes and the fact that its a very light crude that dissipates relatively easily. Its a big ocean, too - and the amount of oil vs. the amount of sea water gives the ocean a big advantage.

Lets see if all the fishermen and wildlife and sealife agree with you, Sanity. Time will prove what you say. For right now though, its a poluted Gulf and no amount of ignoring it...pretending it will 'clean itself' is going to convince me. Nature cleans itself from natural disasters. Oil spills aren't natual disasters. They're disasters made by greedy men who would rather take the chance of a disaster happening, then losing a quick chance at profit and money at the expense of it all. And thank you Lucy for pointing out to Sanity what I really said. Not that he didn't know it, if he went back to his old thread and reposted the bolded parts of his article back then. I just get tired of repeating myself and it wasn't worth the effort, to me.

Why is that? All that Obama could have done was have gotten the skimmers working sooner and by your own account it was completely unnecessary because Obama knew that "mother nature" left to her own devices would cleanse the sea. Obama saved BP money for not over reacting to this crisis. You should be praising him.
