To be fair... this could simply be art imitating life imitating art.
It's be theorized that the notion of vampires drinking stems from a condition that causes people to carve iron and, hence, greatly enjoy - and benfit - from the drinking of other's blood. In the modern days, this really isn't a problem as they can pop iron pills but back in the day, it was more trouble.
And, in my experience with the goths, it's less that they want to look kinky and more that they want to ruffle feathers. And some of them really are kinky and really do know how to blister an ass. Oh good times...
