Yeah, nice emotionally, but factually incorrect.

In my world, the oil shale in the dakotas is being extracted because technology has made it possible, and they have found 3 large fields that are at least 3 times larger than first thought of.  You may have missed the fact that jobs are going crying in the Dakotas because of this.  So, it isn't all bad news.   And who would give a fuck if you spilled oil in an;  'it aint the asshole of the world, but you can sure see it from there' place like the Dakotas?

As the US it is believed consumes 25% of world oil resources and the recent Gulf oil disaster has happened on your own doorstep so to speak, has this disaster changed your thoughts regarding the US's insatiable need for the stuff ?

Has anyone thought to change their ways, trade in their SUV for a more economic and enviromentally friendly mode of transport, or are things just the same ?

What about other oil products in daily use, plastics, fertilisers, body care products, for they also drive the insatiable need for oil at it seems all costs, even the blood of our young people.

Is anyone waking up to just what oil really means to us beyond the consumer lifestyle we seem to desire ?

25% of oil, 25% of world GDP. surprise surprise surprise.

The rest of the OP is a bunch of nonsense.

Yeah, and 4.5% of the world population

With a market of 85% of the worlds population.

Whats the US GDP got to do with anything ? You do know the difference between GDP and exports right ?

America has plenty of oil, we could more than serve our needs if we were allowed to get it.

years ago when the arabs started drilling they sold it cheep... cheeper than we could do it.

the 'crises' in the 70's was because the arabs orgnized and started charging more... it had nothing to do with a lack of oil.

the tree huggers have lobbied and successfully managed to cut off our ability to access our own oil. they have pushed the oil drillers off the land, off the shores and into deep waters.

there is enough oil in alaska alone to more than cover our needs. but we cannot access it. there is a postage stamp sized area set aside in alaska with oil and think about it, if a valve failed on land it would have been stopped almost immidately.

now...as to our destroying the earth by heating it up....
this planet ha been here millions of years. it is agreed that the carbon and temps were much higher in the days of the dinosours...... pre pre pre industralization. now suddenly we are gonna burn up in 30, 40, 50 years if we don't stop using oil ..... pleeese.....

about 5 yr.'s ago there was an error found in nasa's computers and when it was fixed they recomputed the earths temps, they found there was no rise in tempts!
add to that all the 'b.s.' that came out in climate gate, where scientist emailed each other about how to manipulate(sp?) the data so they ended up with rising temps and how they kept disenting views from being published....its obivously a scam! all scientst do not agree about rising temps, but those who do not agree are hushed.

Obama's science czar was claiming in the 70's that we were going into another ice age an we would have deep freezing all the way down to new york.... now he claims we are gonna burn up and supports de-industralization of america.

finally oil is the basis of our entire economy. a small fraction of oil goes to run our cars, most goes into makeup, meds, vinal, plastics, ect ect ect.

those elect cars...where dose the electricty come from? COAL fired plants! coal burning, oil burning, they are changing nothing!

its all about fear and control.

I drive a full size 83 pickup.... I like older cars... pre-computer age..... though I am cnsidering a smaller vehicle, but still older car. mainly because the people ruling us now plan on controling us into even higher prices! not just for gas, for coal too!

TheLady, that's one of the first things that that self rightious prig Obama did was to raise the milage on gasoline for cars in the future!
What the *HELL* is *our government* doing getting involved in the car business?
If I was Alan Mulally of Ford Motor Company I would have told him to go fuck himself!
Whatever happened to "let the market decide" what type of vehicles we drive?
Obama won't close that Mexican border and enforce our immigration laws but he thinks "govt" should "decide" what types of cars and trucks we buy?
I think that *our govt* should be there to *SERVE* us not to be intruding into our lives or trying to *dictate* to us!
It makes me want to go out and buy a new Camero or Mustang with the BIGGEST , MOST POWERFULL engine they have and take a ride up to Washington and circle the White House squeeling rubber and ROARING the engine for a half hour or so! Who the fuck do those people in Washington, D.C. think they are? Obama won't last more than one term with his "globalist" anti-American bullshit.
And Brazil made two *enourmous* oil discoveries last year off their coast! One of them is bigger than the entire Eastern United States.

Sarah Palin got a made-in America model gas-sipper,

Gas sipper my ass those beast get about 20 mpg. A jap liter bike will get in excess of 40 if you keep it under a hundred mph.

and 0bama0 got a really thrifty Chinese model.

You can scroll down for the details here.

Are you suggesting that obama is the first president to do this?

What the *HELL* is *our government* doing getting involved in the car business?

We are in iraq and afghanistan to secure oil. If fools keep using it as if there is no bottom to the bucket then we will have to keep feeding the military machine our children to secure more.

If I was Alan Mulally of Ford Motor Company I would have told him to go fuck himself!

Perhaps alan mulally is smarter than that?

Whatever happened to "let the market decide" what type of vehicles we drive?

That is the problem with your thinking...the market does not decide shit. We have one pound coffee cans with 13 ounces in them. We have half gallon ice cream cartons with 54 ounces in them. I want to know the name of the consumer who contacted the manufacturers and told them to do that.

Obama won't close that Mexican border and enforce our immigration laws but he thinks "govt" should "decide" what types of cars and trucks we buy?

If law enforcement would enforce the laws as currently written there would be no illegal aliens working in this country...but then you knew that because you have agreed with me on that point on more than one occasion

I think that *our govt* should be there to *SERVE* us not to be intruding into our lives or trying to *dictate* to us!

Government serves corporate amerika and you know it so get off of your high horse you "center right independent"
It makes me want to go out and buy a new Camero or Mustang with the BIGGEST , MOST POWERFULL engine they have and take a ride up to Washington and circle the White House squeeling rubber and ROARING the engine for a half hour or so!

That is against the law and has been for quite a while...it is called "exibition of speed" and carries a pretty stiff fine and in some jurisdictions confiscation of your vehicle and license...in this country driving is a priviledge not a right

Who the fuck do those people in Washington, D.C. think they are? Obama won't last more than one term with his "globalist" anti-American bullshit.

What kind of odds you giving...I am not too proud to take your money

And Brazil made two *enourmous* oil discoveries last year off their coast! One of them is bigger than the entire Eastern United States.

So is brazil our next country to invade because of weapons of mass deception?

My car is almost that old. It beats most cars made today in efficiency. There are inexpensive gas-sippers out there for any budget.

"(fuck knows what you call diesel over there)"

White. Rudolf Deisel worked under contract for White Motors in the US when that engine was developed. Technically it should be called a White. I guess that might not work so well, cinsidering it's exhaust.

Under US law, if you are working for a company and invent something, it belongs to the company. But Dolf over here got on a fast plane to Germany, he got all the credit. I can't say if this was right or wrong. On one hand it was his concept, but on the other hand that million dollars or so in machinery that was required to produce a prototype is another thing. He didn't have it apparently.

This info is from family, so if you don't believe it, just leave it alone. We are car people, none of you can tell me the three quick checks to determine the condition of a regular car engine, maybe 2 out of ten of you know how to use a compression tester and interpret the results correctly. We have been in this shit for a century, and no proof to the contrary of my beliefs will suffice. That is how it is.

I know alot less about the newer cars, things are changing, but there are things I know that noplace you can send me can even budge my mind, and I do not care if it is general motors dot com. I personally know more about most of the cars they have built in the last forty years than they do.

In other words, I am the quotable source, and I am telling you, the deisel engine was invented in the US.

Term, White Motors was founded in 1900 way after Diesel had invented his engine in Augsburg Germany. As a quotable source, you should have known this. [;)]

All one needs do is go to the grocery store to see for themselves.
You may not be old enough to remember when coffee came in 1,2 and 3 pound cans. Ice cream came in quart and half gallon containers.

Not sure I understand the motivation for this thread....or perhaps I do.Per chance is this a bit of blow back for all of the criticism BP has been taking for befouling the Gulf Coast?Slightly miffed at the treatment of British Nationals as they were called on the carpet for what amounted to their criminal negligence where safety was concerned?Perhaps a bit peeved that Heyward has been sent packing in favor of an American gent?
Now to be sure I certainly agree it would be in America's best interest to wean itself from it's dependence on fossil fuels...and develop a clean renewable energy source....but I sense just a bit of British petulance in the OP's use of "Poetic Justice" as his thread tittle.
