I didn't think conservatives could get anymore retarded regarding reality, religion, and history. But this takes the cake!

So....what other organization burned books in history? What other organization hates another group of people, and demonizes them at every chance? What other organization was systematically keeping its 'flock' ignorant and foolish of reality and history? They even hate gays, just like another organization in history...

This has to be a stunt. No one is THIS retarded.

"So....what other organization burned books in history?"

All religions have, not just christianity....these days it's mostly an Islamic practice, but....occasional christians too, and even secular groups.

Yes, I smell something....

This was already done here, where it was correctly attributed to a Florida Church, not to "conservatives". But, credit where due, thanks for the illustrative example of someone who "hates another group of people" and "demonizes them at every chance."

Ouch!

I don't have a problem with liberals or conservatives it's the Lefties and right wing holly rollers who believe in "the rapture" that you just can't talk to.
But, they're "excitable" and easy to fuck with.

This is what my sister in Los Angeles said:

" lollllll they know nothing. Of course Muslims will be hurt by this..but most Muslims will be happy. Why? Because the Qur'an is so cherished that they do not want the filthy hands of nonbelievers to dirty the pages..they will prefer it to be burned than to be disgraced by being touched by people who eat pork, drink alcohol and act like this. So..........most Muslims will secretly be laughing about this! in fact Muslims burn materials that have the name of Allah on them if they fear that somebody might disrespect them and dirty them! So...these idiots are just doing the work for the Muslims! HA!"

I take it there must be loads of Muslim holy books in the US for this action to take place, if not they are actually going to have to buy them first so they can burn them, what a waste of money.

Book burning is a part of historical fact. Prehaps not every religion, BUT, saying a religion does it, is inadequate.  Historicly, cultures, or towns, or small groups have done it randomly.  Against a bunch of books of this topic or that, or an author, etc.

Christians are not doing this.  A single, fanatical Church is doing it.  THOUGH, being non denominational as they are listed in the artical as being, it makes you wonder how this church has any clergy.  Is it self appointed ministers?  If they are non denominatoinal, they answer to no religious body outside their small church, and as such, can claim whatever titles they so choose.

A single, relatively small faction of Muslim extreemists were the ones to commit the atrocities this Church is so up in arms over.  Just as one group is not the embodiment of their larger group, the same holds true of the other side in this "us vs them" between Christianity and Islam.

In the end.. an extreemists words and actions hold as much weight and importance as an internet trolls.  Their power is what you give them.  If you hear them, then they are heard. If you respond to them, they have made an impact.  Show them your backs, and close your ears, and they have nothing.

As an aside, in regards to the artical in the original post... "Islam is a violent religion"... well.. I'd say the Crusades.. where Christians went to Islamic lands and slaughtered Muslims and stole their lands.. proved how violent Christians can be.  And we wont even get into the pagans conversions.  All religions, ideals, and national identities.. (except maybe Budhism) have the potential for violent fanatics.  Period.

One would think so (that Buddhists would be an exception), but alas, no.

But one would think that of Moslems and Christians too.

[But credit where it's due--1,000 years ago, Buddhism changed a very warlike Tibet into a largely peaceful people.]

Don't think the Jains ever burned books.

They've been known to burn their own when losing a debate.

Or so the story goes.

i did not see, from this article, whether the books being  burned were written in Arabic or translated into English.  If they are translated versions, then a Muslim believer would see this as a favor.  One supposedly misses the nuance of the words and thoughts in translation.
In any case, this is not nearly the "eye for an eye" that burning a group of Muslims might be, as a retaliation for 9/11.  That, however, would be very unchristian.

Iraq in general, and Saddam Hussein specifically, had nothing to do with 9/11, therefore calling the invasion of Iraq revenge for the event is wrong.

Hussein had the habit of imprisoning and executing Al Qaeda members in Iraq since he did not trust Osama Bin Laden. If you had paid attention to the news, you would have known that. President Bush Lied when he said Hussein supported Bin Laden, and the lies were made public by the BBC, Washington Post and was aired on the national news.

My point exactly.  And it is known world wide that there was no reason to go to Iraq at all, the reasons given were proven false. YET the USA still led the charge into Iraq (and the world dumbly followed)

The end result is that muslims, including many innocents since "collateral damage" occurs, died.  An eye for an eye may not have been claimed.  And in some cases, it may not have been desired. BUT it occured.
