For the next couple of pages, I had a reasonable discussion with a few posters, but the old lefty tactics came out again in force, and they demonstrated the very same childish, insulting, belittling behavior of which I pointed out that they were guilty .

That's what the left does.

You are tagging yourself as "a leftist". I'm not.

I see you as a left of center, but a liberal, not a leftist, even when we disagree.

Every time someone tried to raise the issue of income inequity and the disappearance of the middle class, or the dramatic concentration of income of the wealthiest people fruing the last administration, the cry of "Class warfare!" went out. Just like the cries of "Political Correctness!", it just stops any discussion in its tracks.

To me it seems like Obama's in a bad situation. If he wades into race situations, then he'll be seen as pandering to blacks. If he stays far away, then he's "inflaming racial tensions." So where's the middle line?

I don't think there's anything he can do to improve the opinions of the ones who refer to him always as Barack HUSSEIN Obama, call him "The Kenyan", etc. He's screwed six ways from Sunday.

Uh huh. You think leftists don't walk away from debates around here? Or would that make them "losers" or "clueless" or "not smart enough to continue"? I frequently walk away from debates here when it becomes pointless, just like I did with RealOne.

I make a distinction between "leftists" and everyone else on "the left side" of the political spectrum.

A "leftists" (and I specifically called them "committed leftists" to emphasis the point) are members on "your side" who are the rabid, ideologically drive, take-no-prisoners, true-believers.

We have them on the right as well. An example is cucky. Or RealOne (although he isn't really a "rightists", but something else).

Occasionally, I'll call someone a "lefty", which I consider a less harsh term (actually a friendly, endearing term), primarily meaning someone who displays occasional flashes of actual desire to engage in a conversation on the issues, and reflect rather than react according to the ideological script.

Again, as I said, I don't consider you a "leftist".

I am more left than 90 percent of those who post here...

And I would like to think I attempt to discuss the merits of an issue, until I am attacked..

I think that most you speak of are moderate left of center.. they still believe in the process and that their opinion counts to the party system....

True. Who better to blame than the people on the bottom? Have we as a society learned so little over the past decades?

I keep thinking of a quote from "To Kill a Mockingbird" about the wealthy keeping wages low by setting the poor Whites and Blacks against each other to fight over the few employment opportunities in the area. The racial hatred was so entrenched that the 2 groups would not recognize the economic slavery they were both born into and unlikely to ever escape.

(I looked for the exact quote but have yet to find it Online.)

Sounds like the same technique the British used with the Scots-Irish (Presbyterian) and the Catholic Irish. Both were reamed financially; it was just more subtle with the Scots-Irish.
