Oh dear....

When ever I see a man ask about Asian women, invariably are looking to acquire some quiet, submissive little thing who will be SO grateful for being rescued from a life of abject poverty they will consent to being a virtual slave for the household.
This is NOT something that I'm making up....this attitudes I've seen first hand in Australian men who for what ever reason think that a poor Asian woman will be a softer, less fussy target.

There are so many words to describe the practice and the attitudes.....<but I won't give the mods here a excuse to send me a gold lined love letter>.......but you can guess what they might be. [;)]

What is this "attitude" you speak of? The popularity of "mail order brides" of a decade or two ago? Seems to me that still required *two* consenting adults and I'd think the majority of Asian brides moving here to live did find a better and more comfortable life.

Exploitation usually comes in the form of their own countrymen (and women) sponsoring Asian women to come here as domestic help only to steal their passports and force them into prostitution to pay outrageous debts at a dollar or two a trick. And none of these practises (good and bad) are unique to Oz...!

Focus.

Pfft!

Consent?
B*llsh*t.

Oh yes it is consent when it is choice of starving OR putting up with selling yourself into marriage with an undesirable.

Being born poor is never a sin..taking advantage of the poor is.

How typical that a unattractive, bitter Australian man would defend such a practice.

This bride thing is still verrrrrrrrrrry common.  At least here it is!... The Korean men go on tours to the Philipines to find brides.  Funny.

My local perception is that the former popularity of mail-order brides just died out. A decade or so ago, you'd often see older guys getting about with younger, mostly Phillipino partners but now I hardly ever see such couples at all....

Maybe Oz immigration tightened the requirements because, despite BentUnit's obvious bias, some of the brides often had their own agenda, too. That is, marry some relatively wealthy Oz geriatric to obtain visas and citizenship to a modern western nation. Stick it out for a year or two then go their own way as a free Oz citizen. And once one had citizenship, they could then sponser their often extended family - the marriage was just backdoor economic refugeeism.

Now of course they didn't all do that but those who take advantage of circumstances and opportunity aren't uniquely us big bad Aussie men.

Now why on this site would that be considered a bad thing?

Where there is choice, there is consent.

Really? A rapist may tell a woman, "Either you let me fuck you or I will kill you" while holding her at knifepoint. Choice? Yep, there is one. Consent? Not at all.
For someone facing the real possibility of starving to death, I would wager the level of consent in selling themselves to survive isn't much higher.

You are conflating two different modes of consent--legal and ethical.

Ethically, yes, the woman who lets the rapist penetrate her to avoid being killed has consented.  She has chosen to submit to rape rather than presumably painful death.  Legally, the coercion voids the consent--as it must else rape could not be a crime.

Where there is choice, there is consent.  Whether the law acknowledges that consent or deems it void is an entirely different question, but applicable only to those instances where the particular acts are deemed to be crimes.

I find that it irritates me when non-Asians joke about these stereotypes. Most Asians joke about these stereotypes because we understand the history behind it, while non Asians joke about these stereotypes to other non Asians just to perpetuate this very stereotype hence the word oriental.

Relax sweetie.  That is so fucking lame.  The notion that only those of the same characteristics can make fun of each other has become so prevalent that people today are afraid to goof on others for fear of being labeled as politically incorrect, racist, sexist etc.

The source of the joke is irrelevant.....if it's a joke.

First of all, this is a fast reply. Nothing intended to anyone in particular. Secondly, I just knew when I saw the name of this thread there would be at least some people coming up with racist bullshit. Everyone's entitled to their opinions and likes/dislikes, but geez.

~sweetsub~

Look, this isn't just about racism it's about the exploitation of women in the third world.
Women sold into domestic slavery that's given a veneer of respectability by calling it marriage.

I don't doubt this attitude is amongst men from other countries but I have seen it first hand in some Australian men.

Oh, I totally, absolutely, 100% agree that exploitation of women in the third world is a terrible thing. I never said it wasn't. But still that doesn't excuse the derogatory comments that have been made.

And what the fuck would you know about Focus, sitting on your arse in Nunoffya, Lithuania? Met many Aussies? Lived with them? Been to Australia"? Tell you some thing, pick on an Aussie and other Aussies will join in and and probably will our Kiwi mates..  Focus bitter??????? I fucking don't think so. Unattractive? Probably only his mum (bless her) will think he is attractive but I'd offer him a place playing for Queensland if he wasn't so set in his miss-beliefs about New South Wales..

as an aussie (half anyways), i feel obliged to stand between the two of you and glare down bent. honestly, aussie men are GENERALLY quite wonderful blokes. there are the cretins and idiots, just as there are in america, lithuania, korea, and the uk.

i have a particular bias against korean women due to some ancient history involving my ex. however, i'm very well aware that it is a ridiculous bias, and a nation can't and shouldn't be biased against because of the actions of one woman and her cohorts...

you won't be finding me visiting korea though. sorry sunshine [>:]

btw, IB, i'm not saying you can't defend yourself. or focus defend himself either. but you're aussies and i'm an outsider, so theoretically i'm less biased than the men, even with the accent [;)]

Oh look, Sweetie,

I've told IB that I'm an Aussie and obviously the silly old fool has forgotten.

He'll just totter off and find someone else to bluster at.

No harm, no foul.
