A new report from Republican senators Tom Coburn and John McCain says too much of the $862 billion in stimulus money is being spent with dubious results: $700,000 for a researcher to study improvised music. For a project on interactive dance, 44 percent of the money goes to "overhead."

The $1.9 million spent to photograph ants in foreign countries has created two jobs created so far. That's better than other ant research stimulus projects: $451,000 has created one job, $276,000 spent on another created six one-hundredths of a job, and the $800,000 spent on a different one created no jobs.

The $144,000 spent to study the behavior of monkeys on cocaine created four-tenths of a job.

To study why monkeys respond to unfairness cost $677,000 - and has created no jobs yet - except maybe for the monkeys.

Still, Obama Administration economists say all the projects have valid goals, and the Recovery Act has put three million people back to work.

Remember the spin? We're retooling America for the future with these gargantuan stimulus bills.

The reality? The majority of it was flushed down the commode, and its really, truly sad. I seriously wonder - will our heirs ever be able to manage to pay off this debt?

Where would we be without it?

Much much worse than where we are now.

bush destroyed 11 million jobs and burned up 17 TRILLION dollars of pension/retirement savings. Not much to brag about.

Image where we`d be if we still had those jobs?

Forget about Bush, forget about Obama - there is a principle at stake here.

prin·ci·ple/ˈprinsəpəl/Noun1. A fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.

How is throwing money away supposed to help anything? If throwing money out the window helped the economy we should really be in high clover by now, and we're not. We haven't had two consecutive years of unemployment this high since the great depression. This mounting debt is insane, theres no getting around that fact.

Well, I do agree that alot of that is wasteful. Not helping.  Where are all these shovel ready projects?  Ain't no shit getting fixed in my area. That would be of value to all, getting infrastructure fixed.

Here in Wisconsin they are spending 823 million dollars to build a rail line between Milwaukee and Madison which is about 60 miles. It will be a train that few will ride as a round trip will will be approximately $60.00. That doesn't include parking fees at either end. This will be a boondogle that taxpayers in Wisconsin will be saddled with forever.

In my local area road improvement projects were well underway before the stimulus dollars came to be. Somehow, some of those dollars are now being spent on those roadway projects, even though they were supposedly already paid for by non-stimulus means. No mention has been made by any one as to what the previously side-marked, now freed up non-stimulus dollars are being used for these days. Also, no additional road crew members were hired for the continuation of these projects as they were fully staffed before the stimulus dollars arrived.

Yet, the project managers changed the project signs to say "Your tax dollars at work..." to "Your stimulus dollars at work..." Makes me wish I had taken pics of the sign before it got replaced. Oh... and since federal dollars are now being used, the projects have started running into delays and is now over budget. Since federal dollars are involved, it appears these local roadways must now adhere to much more stringent (some would say useless) road building criteria. These roads are local roads, operated and maintained by local jurisdictions. The projects were on pace to be completed ahead of schedule and under budget.

Yep... federal stimulus dollars at work.

Come on down to the Cities. But pack a lunch and make sure you've got a full tank of gas, because you can't go 3 blocks in any direction without hitting a 3 mile detour. We've got small businesses going out of business because the construction in some parts of town is so bad, nobody can get to them. Probably not quite  what the stimulus plan was intended to accomplish.

Heres where some of the stimulus money went - they're pimping out Andy Griffin for government propaganda purposes:

Political ads are fine with me, but no one should be forced to pay for political ads that they disagree with.

Well, that's ok. Not only were repub bills brimming with just this kind of spending on their projects but those $Trillions in tax cuts weren't flushed down the toilet...all of that money went right into paper...to make more money.

As we know...they sure as hell didn't create any jobs at all. I think what we really need is a new drug benefit...free of course, or say a couple of new tariffs ya know...to protect our friends from actually having to be competitive.

And I remember when Clinton told us that "Nafta will produce millions of high-paying manufacturing jobs and much less illegal immigration from Mexico" too.
So, with the "jobs bill" everyone up in Detroit is going to be taken care of then?

I don't want to freak anyone out by looking up stimulus projects in their neighborhoods (not that I couldn't, since I bet most people list their cities/states in their profiles).  Also, I realize that the purpose of threads such as this is not to actually discuss actual facts, but to express a general sense of outrage over the fact that one side lost the election of 2008.

However, on the odd chance that someone reading this might actually be interested in finding out what kinds of projects were funded by stimulus dollars, here's a link to an independent web site where you can find out what the stimulus did in your area:

http://stimuluswatch.org/index.php/project/by_state

You can even vote on whether you think the project is "worth it" or not.  For instance, nearly everyone said that my area didn't need a new airport terminal.  Well, those people who voted against it must not have ever flown out of our airport--because our airport literally has no bathroom past security.

If you want to use the bathroom, you have to either leave the secured area, go to the bathroom, and then go back through security, or you have to wait till you're on the plane and at cruising altitude.

Ya, total waste of money!

Wrong.

I voted for President Obama, and there is certainly a chance I will do so again, if he runs.

Now, if you had said that the purpose of this thread is to express outrage of wasteful idiocy, then we'd likely be in agreement.

for those that wondered-

The European Illuminati is at odds with the American Illuminati, with the American faction being more of a cowboy.

This is why we see austerity in EU- which defies what the US wants... and is doing- tho the US owns the printer.

Note that some big wars have started in August- which tends to be an iffy month- followed by October.

The next major war will involve nukes and many will die.

Lets hope we can buy some time.
