Louve00 -> RE: Curiosity about Religion...is it God or Gods? (8/5/2010 7:15:27 AM)

My wonder MiakodaTala is how you see the Greek gods different from the Egyptian or the Roman gods.  Why do you pray to only the Greek gods.  Also, would there be a difference to you say the Sun gods, Ra for egyptian and Zeus for Greek, and since I'm not really into the gods I dont know if the Roman gods had a sun god.  But my main question is, how do you see the same gods, of different ethnicities different from each other?  (if I'm making sense)

During the time of the Roman Empire wasn't the reining Caesar at the top of the pantheon of gods? His likeness was on all Roman coins. As I understand it that is why Roman coins had to be exchanged for local currency for the purchase of lambs from the Temple in Jerusalem at Passover... the whole graven image prohibition..

What about the old Norse gods?

Odin, Thor, Tyr..... Freya was a hottie.

Those were some mother fuckin' gods!

Vincent I have no clue.  I don't know about the gods at all.  I saw Clash of the Titans (the old version, not the new movie) about a thousand times and thought it was a cool story, but thats about as far as it went for me.....a story.

many on this site are heretics, agnostics, non-believers that are often anti-GOD and many just enjoy trashing our "CREATOR", so I rarely, rarely, rarely even bother to read or post on religious threads, on this site.

Whew.  Not too judgemental, are ya?

Well, I probably would have said a few and not many, but other than that, what part of her post do you think is not true?

AsmodaisSin -> RE: Curiosity about Religion...is it God or Gods? (8/5/2010 7:34:12 AM)

I enjoy reading about the Greek and Roman pantheons, but I pay homage to some of the Gods and Goddesses of the Egyptian Pantheon.  Isis and Osiris mostly.

I don't believe in ANY 'gods'.............or goddesses for that matter.

I think the part about thrashing the "Creator" is overblown and confused with a lot of earnest discussion about the validity of the belief. Perhaps "trashing a belief in a Creator" would have been more correct. Ya think? Oh, and really "heretics?" Do Believers still use that term seriously in this ecumenical age where a diversity of opinion is supposedly tolerated?

domiguy -> RE: Curiosity about Religion...is it God or Gods? (8/5/2010 7:44:10 AM)

I pay homage to only the Gods I think I "could take." If the shit hit the fan.

The Incans were a silly, little and tiny peoples. How "bad" could there Gods be? Boy, their Gods really did a number on those Spaniards didn't they?

I now pray and surrender all of my wordly needs and desires unto the God VIRACOCHA!!!

It's fun to say....Viracocha!!! Besides, he spent a great deal of his time at Lake Titicaca.

Which is kind of fun to say as well.

"He came dancing across the water...Cortez.....Cortez."

Have you ever considered joining me in the praise of the great Incan God Viracocha.

After the service we could jump into your bathtub and pretend we are immersing ourselves within the pristine waters of Lake Titicaca.

You supply the breastesses, I'll supply the poo.

Jeffff -> RE: Curiosity about Religion...is it God or Gods? (8/5/2010 7:58:12 AM)

Get off my bitch!

May the pussy gods of your choice bless you.

vincentML -> RE: Curiosity about Religion...is it God or Gods? (8/5/2010 8:05:10 AM)

VIRACOCHA later became the head of a mob family in New York City before retiring to South Beach where he no lives off the Vegas casino skim. He's kinda old and funny lookin in shorts and white shoes.

and honestly who in the world tries to make Religion in general make sense with Physics...honestly...you dont try to make the Bible and God make sense with it so why bash on someone else's beliefs?

Is there an emoticon for raising my hand around here?

Having been raised a Christian Congregationalist I did try to make sense of the Bible with regards to how reality actually works. When I found it to be inconsistent with demonstrable reality I rejected the Bible.

first of all. Aphrodite and Eros are not God and Goddess of the same thing..Aphrodite was the Goddess of Love in the aspect of looks...physicall love basically..while her Son Eros was more of the spirituall and deeper love... and honestly who in the world tries to make Religion in general make sense with Physics...honestly...you dont try to make the Bible and God make sense with it so why bash on someone else's beliefs?

Quite an amazing statement to be placed on P&R especially.

Cripes, man! If your belief does not make sense why in hell do you entertain it?

It is you who make no sense.

I don't know Vincent, I think she may be on to something. Firm and Julia afterall, believe that the theory of gravity is open to the same scrutiny as belief in Gods. Firm and others have argued on many occassions that science and religion are equivalent because they both require faith. I have seen just about every possible nutty idea offered here in P&R at one time or another over the years. I think she'll fit right in.

Great eleventh post, MiakodaTala!

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Curiosity about Religion...is it God or Gods? (8/5/2010 9:53:39 AM)

The best things the Greek Gods ever did was inspire "Home at Last".

Look at the trouble you had reconciling reality with one god. Now this young lady offers you an entire pantheon to wrestle with.

But as she says in her profile she is new here, and she expressed her opinions openly. So for that reason I regret reacting harshly to her failure to see a nexus between physics and god.

Apologies, Tala.
