Well, I do not think I would disagree with that necessarily

Although we do not know much about how dolphins think, if we want to get all technical about it.

Actually we know they arent capable of much in the way of processing thought, since they have so few neurons despite their relatively large brains...if you want to get all technical about it.

Read the links from google scholar and learn about how their neocortex is arranged... this tells you a lot about higher brain function

Read this, it tells you much about how much intelligence they actually exhibit.

dumber than gold fish?

One article V. numerous studies on google scholar...

Now you are making definitive statements on animal intelligence that are still being investigated and have not been definitively decided within the scientific community.

Stating goldfish are as intelligent as dolphins is just a ludicrous claim

Actually you have it backwards. His peer reviewed work indicates that dolphins are dumber than goldfish. AFA Google Scholar goes, never been there. Sounds like a glorified wiki.

vincentML -> RE: The Limits of Reason (8/6/2010 1:41:28 PM)

Shouldn't we parse the difference between intelligence and thought process with respect to non-humans since this thread is about reason? I would suggest that reason requires symbolic language. Intelligence may not. Intelligence and reason are not the same I think. Intelligence may involve awareness and sorting out without the ability to synthesize. Only humans possess extensive symbolic language. If this is true it suggests that reasoning is very limited in non-humans and that it is our most advanced feature. Reasoning allows us to analyze and synthesize both. It allows us to appreciate beauty and express our appreciation of it all the more.

If you do not agree with me please explain why. I am very reasonable [:D]

To date, I've never seen anyone of credibility claim that Saddam masterminded the 9/11 attack, care to show me different?

The chimp had no credibility? I know the evil libs thought that, but surely you lads disagree?

Care to post a quote from "the chimp" stating Saddam masterminded the attack? Talk as they say, is just talk.

Moonhead -> RE: The Limits of Reason (8/6/2010 1:49:02 PM)

That was the initial excuse for the invasion, along with the crap about WMDs that was also nonsense.

Thanks for the heads up. But from a quick glance I gather Benji was distinguishing between human cultures. I'll give it a closer look.

vincentML -> RE: The Limits of Reason (8/6/2010 1:58:05 PM)

maybe the chimp didn't say it but it was tom-tommed with the other drums of war...

Important new information has come from Edward Jay Epstein about Mohammed Atta’s contacts with Iraqi intelligence. The Czechs have long maintained that Atta, leader of the 9/11 hijackers in the United States, met with Ahmed al-Ani, an Iraqi intelligence official, posted to the Iraqi embassy in Prague. As Epstein now reports, Czech authorities have discovered that al-Ani’s appointment calendar shows a scheduled meeting on April 8, 2001 with a "Hamburg student."

IIRC (and I might not) there was a lot of talk about Hussein's support for al queda.
Which was obviously horseshit.

luckydawg -> RE: The Limits of Reason (8/6/2010 2:42:28 PM)

Actually it was talk about Saddams support for international terrorists (which is extensivly documented and denied by no one).

It is an insanely huge logical error to pretend that the only terrorist group that exists or are anti American, is al Queda. Anyone pretending so is not using reason in thier arguments.

Actually all the talk about WMDS was that Saddam refused to comply with the Inspection Regiem (part of the Cease fire), and no one can pretend that saddam was in compliance with them. Unless they are utterly divorced from using reason and logic.

The reasons for the invasion were presented to and Approved by the Congress. Which is again, a fact and undeinable.

but it will be denied, by people pretending they use logic and reason.

Its really kind of funny.

No documentation that is credible (and not extensive in scope at all), and  denied (or at the very least) scoffed at nearly universally as incongruous with his regime.

Okay. . . what in the hell does THAT mean?

Moonhead -> RE: The Limits of Reason (8/6/2010 2:54:34 PM)

It's an English reference: Sooty was a glove puppet who appeared on a children's television show for years over here. Matthew Corbett was the chap with his hand up the puppet's arse.
I should have said Howdy Doody or something instead, shouldn't I?

luckydawg -> RE: The Limits of Reason (8/6/2010 3:04:42 PM)

Actually, Mnot, no one denies that he funded many groups that attacked and Killed Americans over the years, as well as his other enemies. That he gave refuge to people who helped in the first WTC bobing.

Anyone saying there were "DIRECT OPERATIONAL Links between saddam and al queda" is incorrect (I doubt you can show me anyone with any sort of Credibility that did). Though we did kill people in Sudan over an alqueda plant (CLinton said it was national important that we bomb and kill people ther) that was getting Iraqi technicall help (and in a batthist dictatorship you can't do that with out permision). Saddam did fund plenty of terror attacks in Isreal with Various groups (including radical Jihadists with ties to Al Queda).

But nothing could ever be credible that denies the view you desperatly have to hold onto in the face of reason and fact.
