Not that I could see.... that's the first place I went digging around in. Removed several things I KNEW I didn't use.

Level -> RE: computer question (8/6/2010 7:11:42 PM)

I'm going to try the defrag.... I may be awhile, but I'll report back shortly. [:)]

Oh, little lady, I need you....

[;)]

Ugh..... so far, a whopping 1% has been defragged. And I smell my pc heating up LOL.

poise -> RE: computer question (8/6/2010 7:25:48 PM)

You want me to blow it?[8D]
I mean, if you have a small portable fan, aim it at the puppy. [:D]

Defrags start off slow, then accelerate. Well, mine does.

Kinda like.... nevermind.

Level -> RE: computer question (8/6/2010 7:31:01 PM)

Yes!

Ah, I mean, let me set the thing by an ac vent. [:-]

Defrag works best when you have something else to occupy your time.
Its like watching grass grow.

Level -> RE: computer question (8/6/2010 7:45:15 PM)

still on 1%, I think grass might be faster [:)]

poise -> RE: computer question (8/6/2010 7:46:54 PM)

Persistence is a fine attribute[:D]
Best of luck, and feel free to grab my attention should you need further assistance.

MadameMarque -> RE: computer question (8/6/2010 9:39:02 PM)

All the work you're doing to clean up your disk and streamline your system's setup should greatly improve your speed.

But if you just want to know what's using up your disk space, I still recommend as I mentioned in another post. Right-click on a folder such as one where you keep your video or music, then select properties, and then the General tab, and it will show you how much disk space the contents of the folder are using. Or do that with your My Documents folder, to see what they add up to, altogether. The bulk of it's going to definitely be in your media files.

Also, if you want a handy conversion tool for how many kb in a GB, etc, here's one: http://onlineconversion.com/computer_base2.htm.

A 1000 KB file is only about one 1000th of one GB, so it's not so big.

1:1024 is more like it.

Have less running in the background to speed up the computer. i.e. Remove unnecessary things from startup registry.

So are extremely intelligent women. Poise and MadameMarque are positively smokin'! [sm=banana.gif]

MadameMarque -> RE: computer question (8/7/2010 1:19:25 AM)

D'awwwh...thank you, Panda-la.

(Shopping online, now, for lingerie that accentuates my brain.

Wondering if exposing my brain will make me seem easy...)

*agrees with Panda about the ladies*

Well, it had 8% defragged when I went to bed, and it overheated and shutdown at some point. Now, it's alternating between moving better, and running like a bowlegged senior citizen up a hill.

Still working on it. I may find something big enough to take out, to get me to the 15% needed to defrag properly, then try to reload.... [>:]

MadameMarque -> RE: computer question (8/7/2010 4:19:31 AM)

Say, Level, have you dusted it out? Unplugged, opened the case, and removed the dust? Helps with the overheating. And I wonder, does aiming a desktop fan at the ventilated area at the back of the computer help cool it, too?

Are you on wireless internet by chance?

Level -> RE: computer question (8/7/2010 6:39:36 AM)

MM, I'll try cleaning the dust here shortly; and I've had to prop a book under it, to allow heat to get out.

poise, yes, it's wireless. And running like shit LOL.
