ORIGINAL: willbeurdaddy David Paterson has offered State land if they move the mosque, which is disapproved by NYers at nearly a 2:1 margin, further away from ground zero. We'll see how serious Rauf is about it being a gesture of tolerance. The greatest tolerance he could show is to not provoke the families and friends of those who died there. Meanwhile Gary Bernsten, who condemned Bush for failing to capture/kill UBL at Tora Bora, believes the mosque is the fulfillment of UBL's desire for a trojan horse to be built in the area. Even its name is provocative. I dont think it matters. They will have a lot of difficulty finding enough money to attract workers to cross the picket lines of the unions what will refuse to work on the building. (Just try and bypass the NY trades!) And if it does manage to get built, I think Greg Gutfeld has a great idea to help demonstrate Rauf's tolerance....the building of an Islam friendly gay bar next to the mosque. Since alcohol is prohibited in Islam, the bar would only serve virgin drinks ...72 of them to be preciese. Several names have been proposed...my favorites...Ram-a-man and Suspicious Packages. I found the last part to be incredibly humorous to read. That being said, there's a certain callousness in building a Mosque so close to the site of a crime supposedly committed in the name of Islam. MANY groups have come out in a public outcry against this building, not just the crazy Christian right wingers (who may just be the most vocal because they're likely the most well funded). The majority of the local community doesn't want the Mosque there. To turn down this offer of public land and essentially spit in the face of the local community isn't gonna gain any popularity points and the longer this drags out, the less respect the Mosque and it's owners are gonna get and more disrespectful they look. boi...not really feeling good with agreeing with willbur right now.
