Your idea's can be for regular water drinkers, or diabetics, I like the diabetics angle more , since I know alot of diabetics struggle with drinks they can drink and like, and find water to plain.

I have heard some like to put lemon in their water, and one lady even suggested trying essential  oils, like peppermint, put a drop or two into the water and flavor it that way.

I wonder if oils like hazelnut flavored oil would be tasty, you wouldn't put much in, just like a drop or two.

Me personally, I have no problem with plain un flavored water but it was an interesting topic, and I wanted to bring it here.

Many different fruits can be added to enhance the flavor of water..... strawberry, blackberry, raspberry....orange, lemon, lime.

I use soda water and spike it with about one sixth part juice, then add crushed ice.

The dabetic nutrition class I went to, the instructor said Juice has a ton of sugar even the all natural, and you really should stay away from it, even in small amounts.

But I still drink juice now and then so maybe I'll try it that way hehehe.

Fresh mint from the yard.
A small bit of coffee or different tea, just for a bit of a change.
I make blended veggie drinks that would be good for a bit of flavoring. Cucumber, celery, cabbage, spinach... just about anything and strawberries work well in it.
I used to mix a drink with two-four strawberries from the yard, cool whip and lots of ice... very refreshing and mostly water. It made a whole blender full and was very light for those hot summer days.

There is a difference between taking fresh fruit and adding it to the bottom of some ice water to lightly flavor your water and drinking juice

is there anything I should be concerned about if I choose the essential oil rout and put a drop or two in my water?

I take one virgin, grab her by the ears, and pull until she cries into my drink. It is delicious.

No, I just like plain water, tfb. Or tea, sweetened with sacharin. After all, a glass of tea is what, 99% water?

Level, I love ice tea too, only I use sweet and low, Other times I put crystal light into my water, but it can be hard to find flavors I like that are not sickly sweet, or disappointingly dull in flavor.

but other options are nice, too.

I learned to put fresh lemon, lime, strawberries, oranges, or grapes in my water.  Mash it up a bit and mix it in the water and as you are sipping it, there may be some fruit coming up the straws....yums!  [:D]

Twoshoes -> RE: What are the all natural, or healthy tasty ways you like to flavor water? (8/8/2010 1:18:19 AM)

It's called tea.

Twoshoes, if I am going to drink tea, I want sugar in it lol. And there's other options out there, other than tea, that deserve to be brought into the light as well:)

flavored waters are gross imo.

I would rather just have a plain old glass of water with lots of ice.

I might squeeze a lemon in the water but that's about it. Anything else just tastes well...artificial.

I don't think so, I have had some wonderfully tasty flavored waters, but they were not home made, they were store bought, or I put crystal light into the water, But I have no problem with good quality water remaining plan either.

I've got to second that one.  Nothing quenches a thirst like plain old water.  Also once you add juice..or sugar or anything else to the water is is no longer water and doesn't have the same effect on your body.

Agrees. Flavored water is vile stuff. Just crisp cold water, lots of ice, maybe some lemon.

Hazelnut oil in water sounds disgusting.

I keep cases of Dasani water in the fridge always. I drink them or plain cold iced tea that I make myself from teabags, no gross flavored mixes, or I buy Snapple's "Just plain tea", which is delicous. No fake sweeteners, it becomes a habit and nothing tastes right without it. Bad habit.

TFTB, I hate to break it to you, but some things aren't going to be delicious and sweet all the time. If you are facing diabetes, trust me, fix it now. My man is type 2, and it is because he had bad bad diet choices that it only worsened, and he preferred to eat and drink only what he wanted and loved, not what his body needed. So at 59 (him that is) I get the task of kicking his ass daily to eat right. He has lost a huge amount of weight though and his doctor loves me.[;)]. It is still a daily process though, and thank god I love to cook, and he is just now learning things like how good an artichoke tastes *without* mayonaisse or that things like sashimi are tastier than ice cream.

Just drink the water as nature made it and you need to retrain your tastes to things that are not artificially sweetened rather than take an essential thing you need like water and try to reconfigure that. I promise you will be so thankful later in life if you *don't* suffer with full blown diabetes, it sucks.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: What are the all natural, or healthy tasty ways you like to flavor water? (8/8/2010 3:28:21 PM)

I have a nice glass of lemon water going right now, the juice of one lemon in a 12 oz glass... I loves me some lemon! The pre-flavoured waters don't taste right to me. A mint leaf or two is nice, we have fresh mint in the yard.

littlewonder -> RE: What are the all natural, or healthy tasty ways you like to flavor water? (8/8/2010 4:50:50 PM)

yeah the whole diabetes thing...take control of it now or you will absolutely pay for it and it's not a pretty picture.

My uncle has type 2 diabetes and he has no more than a week to live due to liver cancer that they say was contributed to by his diabetes. It's taking a toll on us all to watch him die from not taking care of his body and not eating correctly.

I know I sound like I'm scolding and hounding but this is a sore spot right now with me. I'm getting on the case of everyone in my family because I'm tired of watching them all die at a young age...every single one from bad horrible dietary habits.

Do it now before it's too late.

Of course not, and like I said I am AOK with plain water, love it even, if the water is a good quality, but it was, and is an interesting topic, and gets people discussing something othert han sub vs slave, Wanna bes, and pro doms are hookers just after your money.[:D]
