I am not a partisan, but I do have an agenda

If having agendas bugs you, then you must spend most of your life irritated. I have a little advice, just a small teeny bit for you, you need to follow your own advice and take a pill because you are the one who created a thread full of "F" bombs. You also have your own opinions, your own agenda, which I am sure you think is "right". There is nothing wrong with that, but it makes you a hypocrite when you deride others for what you are guilty of...

Less resistance and pushing back against that which bugs us is a recipe for more happiness... still working on that one for myself, but I am making some strides

I have no problem with people who have a consistent agenda. It's the people who judge solely based on whether the person is D or R that bother me

I have trouble with cheerleaders too. I get slightly irritated by people who will back a politician instead of the ideas they represent. In other words, if a politician is under investigation for ethics violations it does not matter what side of the aisle they are to me, unless of course they are purporting to have family values when they are having an affair, etc.

This is why I rarely state I have admiration for politicians. There maybe one or two I have stated I have a certain degree of admiration for. I do not vote a ticket. I will vote against either political party based upon the record of the person representing them in a race. Example: I will never vote for Diane Feinstein again... ever.

What irritates me more than partisans? Moderates. People who claim to be moderate in an attempt to appear above partisanship irk me. It just looks wishy washy... Running to the middle based upon where the media tells us the middle is today, it seems rather the nonthinking person's way out. I think "man up, take a stand, stop fence sitting and get your own opinion"

"You're certainly entitled to your opinions. However, I have two questions for you:

Do you think the endless OPs which point out "bad" things that "the other team" did help solve the underlying problem, or perpetuate it?

If one reads an OP, and immediately feels anger and an urge to piss back at the poster, do you feel that he/she is a part of the solution or a part of the problem?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If reading the news makes a person,group or party look bad, wrong or corrupt,then that`s how it works.
IMO,sunlight is the best disinfectant.
Silence, would perpetuate problems.
Speaking truth to power is our only real way to express ourselves,even on CM.
For me it`s about the topic and facts.Personalities are not that important.Keeping a score card, even less so.
When someone insults me personally,it`s a sign they`ve lost composer and the argument.It`s the sincerest of compliments.
One thing I won`t stand for though are innocent folks being used ,abused or dryfucked by those with power.
I think the OP just pointed out the obvious with a bit of drama (or personal feelings about how its all been going, perhaps), is all.  The bickering about right/left, rep/dem, con/lib has been getting tiresome and it certainly does illustrate well where people stand despite where they say they stand.  It seems (or maybe it just seems to be so because of this particular board?) that the whole world is listening to the political affairs of America right now.  But politics have been going on.....as ususual.
We all weren't around to live through the debates, the word-twisting, the taking out of context and picking apart of opponent speeches, during the time when Lincoln was president, or maybe should say when he was running to be president.  Take a peek at the Political Debates Between Lincoln and Douglas Granted we have more problems than slavery and dissolving the Union.  And granted too, this (slavery) is just but one avenue of debate.  Lincoln was noted for being a multi-tasker but political opinions are odd in the way it does bring out so much passion and so much hatred and yet still at the same time, inspiration, that people go apeshit and berserk to the point of unbelievability.
That said, I doubt it will ever end.  But, I do think America will go on to survive and even thrive (at least "I" believe we will get passed this and go on to thrive).  Whether we maintain our super status or become a third world country doesn't mean we won't still be America, though.  As someone pointed out somewhere just recently, Mongolia and Dutch were super powers at one time.  There's a reason people say never talk about politics and religion.  Alot of people take it way too seriously and personal.  And maybe they should take it seriously.  Your personal beliefs are your personal beliefs.  And the freedom to express them is what America stands for.  It's just...sometimes some people lose civility during it all.  Thats when it starts to feel like its a cancer.  [sm=2cents.gif]
Holland, not Dutch.
Healthy attitude, though.
I think of myself as a moderate... not because of the prevailing opinion but because I hold opinions that would be considered conservative and opinions that would be considered liberal... I hold opinions I personally think are right or wrong...regardless of political party.
I don't know what else to call myself. I am not wishy washy I am firm on my opinions over time.
Did I mention that geography is one of my weakest subjects? [8D]
Seriously, if it wasn't for the $5 globe I bought at a flea market, I wouldn't have the slightest clue where any of these countries were!
That's a skit from the start of one of the Secret Policeman's Ball charity concerts. I'm going to have that going around my head all night now...
No problem. That was a pretty cheap shot on my part, anyway.
I was making a point by my post... There is a lot of this "far left wing" or "far right wing" rhetoric that gets tossed around, and it is often tossed around by people who call themselves moderates.....Just because a person takes the "middle" position does not make them right. Sometimes you can't split the baby. Sometimes the seemingly "extreme" position is the correct one.
As certain European people keep pointing out, this notion that there's some vast ideological gulf between the republicans and the democrats is pretty hilarious. It's increasingly reminescent of the war about eggs in Gulliver's Travels...
I agree...my best friend is as far right as you can get... even a hint of gun control sends him into a rage...He would make Sanity look like a bleeding heart liberal...We argue all the time and I love to egg him on...but we enjoy it...all we have in common is the fact we are both X marines and politics just makes life more interesting.
That is the way it is with most people I believe... It is the person that counts not their political affiliation.
For friendship, a working relationship, etc, yeah....
When it comes to someone I want to spend my life with, it matters greatly to me.
Just think...opposites can have a lot more fun...and when you and your mate are the same it is fun to gang up on others and still have fun...so maybe just maybe politics mean little in relationships....in my opinion that is
In most of my profiles I say that conservative politics is a deal breaker.So is not having a sense of humor......[:D]
I have quite a few friends and past lovers who were/are republican.
I have quite a few republican associates from work and the jobs I do.
And most of my karate teachers are republicans.
But as my SO......nope.There`s someone for everyone.
Butch,
Ever looked at the Libertarian Party?   I'm not conservative, nor am I liberal; I found my own views consistent with the Libertarians.
No, stupid partisan bullshit isn't the cancer that's killing America.  Stupid bullshit is. (Is there smart bullshit?)
Partisan or not, you can conduct yourself with honor and civility, or not.  If you're a jerk, or too dumb or just too uneducated to think beyond the radio host's slogan of the week, yup, you're the problem, and we could all point to some examples around here.  It's not politics, it's an anger management problem.
That has nothing to do with partisanship. The world is full of people who roll their eyes at political debate and think "all politicians are crooks", but are too pristine to actually dirty their fingernails and contribute.  Those are the people who help the crooks prosper.
Give me the folks who actually do something; who aren't too pure to roll up their sleeves, go down to the local HQ, and start working the phones or putting up signs on behalf of  - OMG! - their preferred, partisan candidate. I might be working my ass off to defeat their candidate, oh, because, say, she/he prefers spending my money on war, not real health care, but I have more respect for those folks, even if the debate gets heated.
Yeah right...says the guy with the anti-Palin pic...send me some of what your smoking. You are one of the most partisan posters on here and the vast majority of your threads are of the "right-winger fucks up" type.
