In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those
Who stand looking

Led Zepplin won't be playing London's Royal Albert anytime soon, and since the prince is already in the can, he won't be let out. That's gonna ruin the phone pranks as well.

Jeffff -> RE: Smoking in car declared 'child abuse' in UK... (8/9/2010 2:23:08 PM)

Do you think the remaining members of Zep enjoy "Shark Week" more then the rest of us?

Rumor had it she was smokin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hertz -> RE: Smoking in car declared 'child abuse' in UK... (8/9/2010 2:24:27 PM)

'****Hertz, fuck it....if people want to take drugs let them....where dya draw the line? Heroin? cocaine? alcohol? smoking? toking? coffee? chocolate? magic mushrooms? salt?'
DCWoody

I made it pretty clear I think - I don't care if you do drugs. I don't care if you want to poison yourself. Why would I? I don't even know you. I even said in my previous comment that if you want to grow tobacco and smoke it, go ahead. But (and this is the key point as far as I am concerned), I am not happy about someone else making a business out of selling you that shit with the state taking a tax cut but otherwise turning a blind eye. If you wanted to set up a business selling poisons to consumers, I'd fight you all the way. I mean, think about it - why do we prosecute drug dealers but allow tobacco companies to thrive? What's that about?

I am absolutely behind any legislation which can protect the individual from harm.

Well in that case, it ought to be against the law for some people to have a kid... nevermind another and another and another.

K.

I'd like to see a law like that passed, to be honest. Have people sit a parenting exam and then give them an abortion if they demonstrate that they aren't competent to raise a kid.

Good for them.

I guess it`s still considered a freedom here to inflict that damage on developing bodies.

No it isn't actually Owner. A lot of towns in Maine have done that, last year actually. Good on 'em I say. I don't really dig seeing Mom and Pops sucking on a camel with little Joey gasping for air. Not pretty.[:'(].

Oh and before I get the uproar, I smoke. I don't have kids though, and I smoke furtively. Really. It's one of those vestiges of my youth that I can't give up entirely. I enjoy a cigarette on occasion. I shall cope with the scorn.

It's a tough call. I bet we can all think of examples of really seriously out of control situations where one child after another is born into a nightmare situation of bad parenting and child abuse. What on earth should we do? Ignore it on the grounds of 'personal choice'?

I think most people would struggle with banning these parents from having kids. But they might have less of a problem with the idea that we reward people to use birth control
. How about offering a free sterilisation and a cash incentive? It's already being done, and it's cheaper than dealing with the social problems which would otherwise result...

domiguy -> RE: Smoking in car declared 'child abuse' in UK... (8/9/2010 2:53:09 PM)

And I always thought second hand smoke was bad for you....Thanks Jeffff! Now to find a the slaviest of slaves to take the initial brunt of the blow and then send to me through some sort of a tube all of the sanitized second hand smoke that I can eat.

Too bad the poor thing can't afford health insurance. With her now being a smoker can you imagine how much she is going to have to pay? It's going to be okay because health insurance is soon going to be free.

Maybe we could surgically alter all of the illegal immigrants and somehow blow cigarette smoke directly into their lungs and have them act as our own personal human Brita cigarette filters.

I am an idea man.

pahunkboy -> RE: Smoking in car declared 'child abuse' in UK... (8/9/2010 3:06:10 PM)

Of course it is bad for you.

Who the hell wants to smell that smoke?

I agree.   But I do not like any law for this.

what are your thoughts?

My first thoughts are you are stupid beyond belief, really Hunk. There ISNT such a law in the UK nor is one even being considered. This is, as Frazzle spotted but the rest of you missed, one view, in one journal by one doctor. Said doctor probally has a point about the danger of second hand smoke, thats why its banned in public places, including on public transport systems.

I wish you and others would stop posting misleading shit and claiming it to be fact.

Smoking in cars hasnt been declared child abuse. Instead of making some obscure remark about message boards, why not just admit yout thread title was both misleading and incorrect. Nothing new there, granted.

There is nothing wrong with the first part of your post.

I thought it was constructive.

The last sentence of it- is what seemed disruptive.      Of course to discuss the topics is a good thing.

Politesub53 -> RE: Smoking in car declared 'child abuse' in UK... (8/9/2010 3:38:05 PM)

The last part was pertinate to the title. If you want to discus topics surely it is better to have genuine titles.

Well you know I normally champion freedom to fuck up your own life here, but this law wouldn't be about that, it would be about restricting people's right to endanger minors. Which I have no problem with.

Also it is common sense. I can not believe anyone would do that, I know a few people who have kids and they would bite your face off if you tried to justify smoking cigarettes in a car with their child. The scary part is that this sort of thing actually has to be legislated.

My only concern is that we live in a time where the letter of the law is applied more than the spirit of it, and I'd seriously get ragey if a law like this were applied to a group of teenagers driving in a car when the smoker was 18 and the "minor" was 16. And don't tell me that won't happen. You know it would.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Smoking in car declared 'child abuse' in UK... (8/9/2010 4:39:55 PM)

I hope you're being sarcastic, because that wouldn't be right to t reat illnesses kids contracted through parents dumbshittery and   inconsiderate actions.

If it was something you gave yourself through your own choice to smoke or dope yourself or something I'd agree your shit out of luck in regards to be able to get healthcare, not not if some inconsiderate parent cared more about lighting up on the car ride than their kids smelling and inhaling all that shit.

How about insurance companies and title 19 refuse to pay for treatment of all respiratory problems those children will suffer, instead. No treatment for asthma, no treatment for bronchitis, or pneumonia. Sounds like a winner of an idea to me!!!

There are people out there who've got a fetish for cigaretts and the smell of them an all things to do with them  like being a human ashtray.
