Toppingfrmbottom -> I found an injured bird in my yard, and tried to call for help, but it died before I could call (8/10/2010 10:27:43 AM)

I was trying to call the wild life number, an they didn't open till 10, and it'd already been like 25 minutes since i found him daddy went to check on the bird, and he said, it died.

Now the only thing left to do is  have a good cry, cause I wanted to save it, and then call the west nile bird hotline and have it come pick it up and test it for diseases.

And maybe Daddy and I will host  a little memorial for it. Maybe go eat a dinner or get a dessert at my favorite place in honor of Brandon Poe , the bird.

I am sorry Brandon, I really did want to get you some help, and I had hoped you would make it, but since you didn't I'll give you a dignified end, and honor your memory.

Thank you. I have always cared about animals, if I found one dead in the road by my house, I'd put on gloves an go move him an buried him, and if I found one by the side of the road as I was walking, I would cover them up with sticks and leaves if I could, so they could have a dignified death. And I always call animal control to help with dogs for whom I Can't find the owners, and even kept one for an entire day because I thought I knew his owner was, but it was a work day and nobody was home. I walked 3 blocks chasing a dog who was just wandering the streets alone before I could catch her. And when someone hit a dog an drove off I also called animal control to call in the hit an run, though it broke my heart.

I believe it's the kind thing to do to help out all animals, if they'll let you.
I honestly expected Brandon to try to peck me or hurt me for trying to pick him up, but he just calmly allowed me to pick him up and put him in his box.

My cat kills birds every week.

It happens.

I am so sorry to hear about your little fellow. I like to plant a shrub or perennial with their grave that reminds me of them.

She is. She's one of the kindest and most caring people on this site. The bird could not have fallen into better hands, regardless of how it turned out.

I know exactly how you felt. I hit a pigeon once on the freeway - bounced right off my windshield, directly in front of my face. It sounded like I hit a bowling ball. The oil in the feathers left a perfect imprint of the bird on the glass, like a modern-day fossil. It was actually quite fascinating, albeit rather morbid.

subwaythru, I was going to go out and have a milk shake as a memorial for him, but our plans to go into town fell through, but we're going to get a jug or cranberry grape juice and I'll drink to him.

It sounds kind of silly to call that a memorial I guess, but what better way to celebrate him than doing something that brings me joy, and is a treat, and a glass of juice sure is a treat![:)]

OK, I get the "Poe", but where does the "Brandon" come from? I've been trying to figure that out for hours.

I'm sorry for your loss, TFB. I know how sad you must have felt, but at least you tried. You did more than most people would have done.

Branden lee from the movie The Crow, Bruce lee's son.

We were going to name him Edgar Allen Poe, but I didn't like that, as neat as it would of been it just didn't seem to fit him. So we tacked poe onto Brandon.

Thank you Panda, That's what the animal control lady said when I had to call for the number for the west nile people so they could come pick him up, they said I did the best I could and that was all I could do.

I made Daddy and I scrambled eggs with liberal helping of cheese, and some garlic salt sprinkled in and I am having some juice.

This meal is in honor of Brandon Poe, the Crow, here's to you!
