Wow, are we nearing the bottom yet?
How much lower can we go?

States are cutting funding to the disabled now.
17 states have cut funding to the disabled since 2009.
According to the article below, CA is cutting 19 million from the funds that are used to pay for home health workers to assist those with disabilities.

Some of these cuts mean that some of the disabled that have been able to live at home with assistance, will now be forced to go into nursing homes.
Unbelievable

The states are broke.

A loss of real estate taxes, sales tax, income tax, corporate tax..........

This is one of the things that happens when you cut spending.

I am not sure, but I imagine the disabled are not a huge voting block.

Get used to it. The other shoe hasn't even dropped yet. Most people in this country have absolutely no idea how much trouble we're really in, and how broke we really are. If the job market doesn't start to turn around very soon (and there's no reason to believe that it will), the last couple of years have been nothing compared to what the next five or ten are going  to be.

I agree many shoes have yet to be "dropped".
It's amazing with all that is going on, how many people are clueless.

I find cutting home health aides for handicapped people particularly sad.
These people want to stay in their homes, and without the assistance many
might have to go into nursing homes.

It is so much cheaper and more cost effective to keep people in their homes, when possible.

I was wondering last nite how close to collapse we were with the bank failures. I'm pessimistic about our economy in general.

I agree.  You know my feelings on all of that.    Get your silver before the devaluation.

pahunky, I am not out buying gold or silver, at this time.

I am getting rid of consumer debt, and I plan to try my hand at some gardening, "hydroponics" indoor gardening.

I am really bummed about states cutting these home health programs for the disabled.
These people just need a little assistance so they can remain in their homes, and be as independent as possible.
Damn, this just sucks.

People want sunshine and cotton candy.

I used to tell people to buy silver/gold-  but now - I should from now on- say- don't worry- be happy.

LOL.

It is a really serious situation and yes, it is less expensive to keep these very vunerable people in their homes. I know a few people who will be effected by these budget cut backs and worry that we are headed into a full fledged financial depression overall.

When I took on the care of my son and fought to keep him with me rather than put away somewhere tied to a bed because of the heavy medications they gave him, I had to learn my way through a process that was... insane. Alone with no assistance and no money yet, I had to care for him and even hide him for a while. Once I proved I was correct in what he needed and he did well, no one could touch us.

Everyone told me to go to California and believe me, that is what I wanted to do since I am a native Californian and missed it and it would be best for my health and ability to care for him. BONUS was that California, unlike many other states including the one's I could live in or move to, would pay me to care for him. Even that would be cheaper than a nursing home, but some states didn't see the worth in that. I can't blame them actually because I believe one way or another the federal government pays for that rather than the state. I could have protected myself with the income I could have gotten to care for him in California or a few other states. Had I gone that route, we would now be in serious trouble because we would have had to find a way to move to a place that was cheaper to live and afford the move. Most likely losing a lot I had done to establish things.

I had been watching the economy and knew there was a chance that one day that check wouldn't come in and we would be in serious trouble. So, I found a hot-sticky-humid place with little I enjoy, to establish my son, rather than me and what I wanted in life.

Nursing homes the federal government will pay for. It is iffy in getting home care in many places. Colorado had some, but it wasn't 24/7 care. I could get seven days where they would put him in a nursing home, a year so I could have a rest or could get some assistance with maid service or something like that at the tune of $150. an hour.

As payee for my son, I cannot get help or one red cent. No relief, no help. It pissed me off that the tax payers would have to pay anything for my son and I tried to keep expenses down. That was my choice and I am able to do it so far, but... one day... the tax payer will be paying far more because when I am gone, if my daughter can't do it for some reason... it's going to cost far more.

The whole system is broken and the way they do it, it will eat up whatever is left of the money that provides for the ill, disabled and elderly. Then what will we have? What do you do with these people? First they go to nursing homes until they close them because the money is gone or people are neglected. What then?

Umm-

What did Hitler do with the disabled?

This is why the economy is such a serious issue.  the endgame is something not nice.

This has been happening for a decade.  I can think of few things worse to be in Ohio than a parent of a special needs child for the last decade.  Funds and facilities have been cut the whole time.
