Maybe 25 years ago, or more, I was in a southside bar here in Chicago. It was an Irish bar.

There was a band singing Patriotic Irish tunes and then they called for a hat to pass around for the " cause". It may or may not matter that my grandparents came from Ireland.

Anyway, the hat got to me and I passed it to the next guy without putting any money in ti.

The bartender looks at me and says why didn't you put anything in it? I said how is giving money to people who blow up innocent people helping the cause for peace?

I was rather roughly escorted out. I got my licks in but I was sore for days.

So yes I spoke up, got hit a number of times and it changed nothing except I felt good about myself.

It had nothing to do with religion, I was Catholic at the time. Trust me, that never came up.

jeffff...change can only happen one person at a time. Good to know you've the conviction and courage, no matter how damn stupid [:D], to stand up for your beliefs...

dawg, I haven't seen you for a while so here is a heads up.

Name calling is strictly out now. Moderation has stiffened up a bit over the last week or so.

We have all been cordially invited to attack the post, but not the poster.

that depends on who you are. Certain folks can still do it wityh impunity.

This is a common misconception of many Atheists. All violence is based in religion and when religion is involved all sense is left behind.

That's not what the poster you were responding to said. I've never actually heard an atheist make that statement, though I've heard it a lot. Strangly every time I hear this statement it's coming out of the mouths of theists.

Brain -> RE: It seems that people have forgotten about non-muslim extremists (8/16/2010 7:02:55 PM)

None of it is sensible but they do live peacefully amongst each other in North America and other parts of the world.

I've never understood the violence in Ireland. It's always seemed senseless to me.

Versus, say, the "sensible" violence in the world?

Yea, me too.

Moonhead -> RE: It seems that people have forgotten about non-muslim extremists (8/17/2010 2:05:53 PM)

Tolerance is a good thing, talking shit is not. Sometimes the mix of the two on here leads to a clash, and some moderator getting the needle...

jlf1961 -> RE: It seems that people have forgotten about non-muslim extremists (8/17/2010 3:26:02 PM)

I was just trying to point out that there are terrorist groups that are not Muslim. The fact that there are CHRISTIAN groups in the US that has been categorized as domestic terrorist groups in the US.

Moonhead -> RE: It seems that people have forgotten about non-muslim extremists (8/18/2010 5:29:07 AM)

There are also Christian groups in the US who fund terrorist organisations elsewhere.

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of KKK members do not have a violent criminal record either.

They just subscribe to a hateful ism

So telling lies about a poster is ok in the new rules? But reponding is off limits.

HMMMM....

I may end up getting moderated again.

Responding is fine, name calling is NOT.
