A real martini is made with Gin.

Sooooo....being a martini virgin and all....

What's the difference in taste?  I do realize it's like a Hilton vs. Marriott debate.  Essentially unresolvable.  (For the record, I'm a Hilton girl.)

Gin tastes like gin. It's delicious. Vodka tastes like vodka. Tasty but definitely one of the lesser spirits. People mix it with cranberry juice and say....."Hey look at me, I'm drinking a martini!!!"

Ummm. . . . I don't know as I am kinda allergic to gin.  I have only ever had one martini and it was some sort of chocolate cake flavored thing.  Fun, but not something that I would really crave.  I am not fond of olives either.  So they are a zero sum game for me.

I'm a dirty martini girl... Shocking, I know.

Dirty martinis are a little saltier.  I don't like gin (blech  [:'(]), so vodka it is for me... but hey - Grey Goose Vodka.  Smoooooooooth.

So.. . . without slogging through all 18 pages, just HOW does one go about finding out if they are in a clique?

In "a" clique, just "a" clique?  C"mon Aylee, we are speaking of THE clique.  Well, first off, you got called..... that works for me.  2nd, it seems that posters here are THE clique.  But, SHHhhhhh...... this thread was set-up for posts complaining about THE clique. You know, the one that is perceived by them that wanna bitch as the clique that "runs" CollarMe.com and "holds secret meetings" and all that other crap.  So, if you know the truth about whether there are cliques or not, you are in the clique.  Also, at least one new clique was formed, so off to the (now) 19 pages with you so you can tell whether or not you can be a member of a secret clique by advertising the fact in your signature block with a nice, brand new, sparklie tag line...... LOL!

Gin has a delicious blend of herbs in it and goes well with vermouth.  Whereas good vodka has none of those flowery herbal flavors and tastes best straight up.  The only herb that should ever get close to vodka would be a dash of pepper.  It should never even be considered as a mix with vermouth. . . don't utter the those words.  In fact, it is a sin and if violators are caught, the Russian mafia kidnaps you and dumps out in the middle of a frozen lake in Siberia.  Or decendants of Antonio Benedetto Carpano, the Italian distiller who invented Vermouth drag you off and turn you over the Italian mafia which will end badly with you taking a dirt nap with the fishes.

Don't even keep a bottle of vermouth in the same cabinet with vodka.

I really dislike gin. It's the juniper scent, it's just EW for me. Vermouth... is something that we use when cooking veal. And for certain cookie recipes.

I don't keep any bottles of liquor at all in the house anymore, unless it's a nice single-malt Scotch; doesn't even need to be too pricey. McClelland's 12 is very good *nods*..
Oh wait, that was wicked off-topic for the thread, wasn't it? Was I supposed to be bitching about something..? My bad..
In afterthought: I have apparently lived a somewhat deprived life: sunny, what's a "dirty martini"?
