It's very easy to use your brain, personally I prefer to not be babysitted, because I like being an adult, come on, somebody you've never seen asking you to send them money and you need protection from that person or somebody to stop you sending money to random strangers - should you really be on the internet, should you be allowed out on your own? Should magazines come with warnings and disclaimers that you can get paper cuts?

How exactly would you suggest they go about getting rid of the scammers? Target profiles with any mention of tribute in them? They would just stop mentioning it in the profile and be that much harder to stop. Or maybe the mods could email each member acting like they want to hook up, then if they are asked for money, they can ban that member. Or they could do interviews with each prospective member before allowing them to join. So many things to think about. In the mean time, how much time are you going to volunteer to help?

I have in a previous thread volunteered to do it yes, I got the reaction I expected....anyone volunteering for something shouldn't be allowed to do it. There are well disguised scammers, and situations people may disagree about (like people demanding tributes)...but there are many more shitty, blatantly obvious, 7ft tall 12lb nigerians using pictures of white blonde porn stars. It is not....repeat NOT....difficult to spot many many scammers, and I would very much appreciate a ban button.....though I think it'd far be more sensible to moderate them when they sign up (just have any nigeria area IPs throw up an apparent technical error when they try to create an account for example).

Great, so you ban a complete country because there are some scammers in that country, smacks a bit of racism to me. Well, we all disagree with something, somebody wants tribute, nobody forces you to pay. This whole ban stuff reeks a bit of a mad power trip, there are moderators for that, if you don't want to talk to somebody, what stops you from using the "block user" button? Now if you are so intend on protecting people, volunteer somewhere where people are helpless, a blatant fake, if somebody falls for it, those people will fall for anything, are you going to protect them in real life as well? You can't protect people from being stupid and anybody seeing a picture of somebody being obviously a porn star and they want you to send money to Nigeria, if you do that, you can't be helped. Do you also want to protect people who buy snake oil or swamp land? Will you follow those people around to stop them signing over their savings account to strippers who say "Hello Sexy" to them? CM tells you to not send money to people, if people decide to ignore that, you can't help them, personally I think then they should possibly not be allowed to go on the internet or leave the house unsupervised because they are a danger to themselves.

No offense, but the thought is not that anyone volunteering for something should not be allowed to do it, after all, do you think we FORCE our moderators to work(well I do, but thats AFTER they volunteer for OTHER lackluster jobs) What we DONT do...is ask someone to volunteer that so clearly has their own agenda they would do as they pleased, hell and be damned what the site and the OWNERS might be.....make a bit more sense now? Edited to add: subsititute block or hide for the ban button, and I think you might have a winner. That way you wont see what YOU dont want to see.

Now, how many people join this site a day and how much time do you think it would take to establish that they just out to make money off of people? You may be willing to do that, but I doubt most people are. Especially when a little common sense would make the problem go away. If people didn't give them money, there would not be so many of them here.

It annoys me also about the scammers.....what I do is send back at least one extremely NASTY message (in LARGE type) and then i report them to CM. It doesnt matter what it is, if the low-lifes think that they can make money the easy way, they will do it. I do get a little minute piece of satifaction out of blasting them though!
