This reminds me of Scot Ritter, the man who came out and said there were no WMD in Iraq, they accused him of pedophilia. That allegation proved to be completely false. But sex abuse is like fly paper... you never get it off..

Swedish authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange on suspicion of molestation and rape.

The warrant was issued late yesterday, said a spokeswoman at Sweden's prosecutors' office in Stockholm.

She said Assange should contact the Swedish police for questioning about the accusations of molestation and rape in two separate cases "so that he can be confronted with the suspicions".

STOCKHOLM — Swedish prosecutors on Saturday withdrew an arrest warrant for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, saying a rape allegation it was based on is unfounded.

The accusation was labeled a dirty trick by Julian Assange and his group, who are preparing to release a fresh batch of classified U.S. documents from the Afghan war.

Swedish prosecutors had urged Assange — a nomadic 39-year-old Australian whose whereabouts were unclear — to turn himself in to police to face questioning in one case involving suspicions of rape and another based on an accusation of molestation.

"I don't think there is reason to suspect that he has committed rape," chief prosecutor Eva Finne said, in announcing the withdrawal of the warrant. She did not address the status of the molestation case, a less serious charge that would not lead to an arrest warrant.

But Karin Rosander, a spokeswoman for the Swedish Prosecution Authority, told NBC News that the allegation of molestation remains. However, Rosander said that after a new prosecutor looked at the allegations, the arrest warrant was withdrawn because the severity of the case does not require an arrest at this stage.

I would say the powers that be have it out for him

tazzygirl -> RE: Wikileaks founder Julian Assange accused of rape (8/21/2010 9:25:46 AM)

I wont disagree. They are trying to flush him out of hiding. However, when someone makes such an accusation, it should be taken seriously until it has been determined to have no merit. Why is he in hiding anyways?

pahunkboy -> RE: Wikileaks founder Julian Assange accused of rape (8/21/2010 9:33:38 AM)

Yup-  the powers that be will play hardball when their profits are in peril.

tazzygirl -> RE: Wikileaks founder Julian Assange accused of rape (8/21/2010 9:38:44 AM)

whose profits?

He went to sweden to sign up for a publishing certificate to make sure the website, which has servers in Sweden, can take full advantage of Swedish laws protecting whistle-blowers.

This man is on the run trying to protect his own ass after putting many lives on the line. He is being demonized by most of the reporting agencies around the world.

What profits are you dreaming up now?

TheHeretic -> RE: Wikileaks founder Julian Assange accused of rape (8/21/2010 9:53:35 AM)

I'm inclined to think he might qualify for a drone strike, so this doesn't bother me much.

He is being "demomized" is right...

I am not sure what he is doing is right, but then again what our military is doing around the world often "isn't right" either. We pay for this stuff and we have no information with which to make educated decisions in regards to whom we elect to make these life and death decisions....

tazzygirl -> RE: Wikileaks founder Julian Assange accused of rape (8/21/2010 9:57:37 AM)

But is it his decision to put all those lives in danger? Its been mentioned that many terrorists groups have been looking at his web site for the next "list"

hertz -> RE: Wikileaks founder Julian Assange accused of rape (8/21/2010 10:01:16 AM)

I wonder if this is the sort of situation (had he been arrested) which would activate his 'Insurance' file?

SeanPony -> RE: Wikileaks founder Julian Assange accused of rape (8/21/2010 10:02:41 AM)

I hope they don't end up Waterboarding the poor sucker.

Gotta love a "reporter" who feels a need for such.

Here is my problem with this. The people who he puts in danger could be my neighbor's son or daughter... I am very cognizant that there are real consequences for what he is doing. He has claimed he has sat on info for this very reason, but he has no way of truly knowing how crucial what he leaks is..

But here is my other trouble with this....our national security agencies are too large, too many of them, and we have no idea what they are doing. We have no real oversight of our own government. This is just as big of a problem as wikileaks is to the safety of our people...

At the end of the day I usually come down on the side of more information is better than none. I wonder if we had all the information that the Bush Admin had about Iraq if we would have ever invaded them. I wonder if we had more information about 911 if it would have ever happened.

If our government was more honest with us, perhaps wikileaks wouldn't even exist

tazzygirl -> RE: Wikileaks founder Julian Assange accused of rape (8/21/2010 10:08:34 AM)

For me, it comes down to this...

Is what i want to know important enough for me to risk the life of another to find out?

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: Wikileaks founder Julian Assange accused of rape (8/21/2010 10:09:01 AM)

Of course they're trying to hunt him down, smear him, and ruin his life in any way possible. He exposed the massive fraud that is the Afghan war. Lives in danger? They're only in danger because of a completely bogus and unwinnable war that WE should never have started in the first place.

To TheHeretic:
A drone strike? So now you're the judge and jury? Any other parts of the Constitution you'd care to toss aside while you're at?

On the contrary, I think Mr. Assange should be given the Medal of Freedom! We need more people with his courage and in much higher places.

How many lives are risked every day by our government? Many of them are not American lives, but that does not mean they are not valuable lives.... And why should a Swiss/Austrian man care more about American lives than Iraqi lives or Afghani Lives?
