Pandering to the personal interests of voters in an effort to win them over is not a violation of the separation church and state. That's like having a problem with color-safe "bleach". It's not really "bleach" but it pretends and claims to be and, as such, it's violating the sanctity of making whites the whitest.

The Religious Right are pushing for a Christian centered government, which would effectively eliminate the separation of church and state.

Kirata made this point earlier.

Are you misusing the religious right when you mean the christian right?

The Christian right (also known as the religious right and the evangelical bloc) is a term used predominantly in the United States of America to describe a spectrum of right-wing Christian political and social movements and organizations characterized by their strong support of conservative social and political values.

Your usage would have benefitted from reading the Wiki entry further...

The terms Christian right and Religious right are often used interchangeably, although the terms are not synonymous. Religious right can refer to any religiously motivated conservative movement, whether specific to one religion or shared across religious lines.

Maybe, but I find peace in a Goddess.  It all depends on what makes you happiest and brings you the most peace.

Same...I was talking to my husband the other day about spirituality, and he mentioned feeling god as a paternal figure, which I found interesting because the strongest spiritual experiences I've had were with a female, mothering, nurturing goddess...he's able to get a lot more out of Christianity than I am, the closest I've ever come to Christianity is Catholicism and there's a much stronger feminine presence there with Marianism and Madonna figures.

Thank you Master Kirata. That was my point exactly.

How to Please God Every Day

To please God is not as simple as one might think. It is more than obeying his commandments, even all his commandments. Find out how you can really please God. In pleasing him you will find life most enjoyable.

There is a fuller, deeper way of pleasing God, a way that he desires all of us to have because it is a way which also most satisfies our yearning to please God. Stated simply it is this: We please God everyday by enjoying him everyday. Or to put it in another way, God is most pleased with us everyday if we enjoy him more and more everyday.

When we realize this, that God is in everything, then we can enjoy God in everything. And enjoying him we please him. We enjoy God every day and we shall please him every day. For this is what he desires of us to do, that we simply enjoy him. And in enjoying him we please him most.

Greetings Brian:

I do not believe it is possible to please God/Deity without some aspect of selflessness being involved. Humanly speaking it is rare indeed when sustained moments of true selflessness is apparent in daily living, one to another. Becoming pleasing or otherwise selfless toward others is next to impossible to achieve on a sustained level let alone striving to please an omnipotent absolute perfect God/Deity on a daily basis.

Although striving toward higher spiritual views indeed are noble & possible when consciously chosen. Indeed even if only when a human moment is found to merge with the divine timelessness of the Universe while offering a selfless act of kindness to another human being in spite of everthing within you protesting against selflessness. This is when God/Deity is most pleased when ego meets selflessness for a moment in time. Rare indeed, aye!

Take care!

Considering that the "religious right" talking heads are a major part of the cable and satellite broadcast environment, and have a large following... half of the Republican base are non-Hispanic whites who are strongly religious, defined as those who attend church about once a week or more frequently.

Are you making a connection between people who go to church and those who believe the crap being pushed by $300 haircuts on Sunday morning TV?
K.

You forgot radio, internet, direct mail and a huge publishing industry.  It's not just the dudes on TV anymore.

In Christianity, the Shekinah was neutered; hence the mysteriously vague "Holy Spirit".

One has just got to think the ancient religions might have got something right where modern religions are still struggling, Ardhanarishvara, welcomes both female and male as equal beings.

Oh wow, that's really cool. I always thought the Holy Spirit should be female - it's weird to have a father and a son without a mother to finish the trinity.
