Status: offline 		Women are raised from girlhood to see themselves as potential victims, and to see all men as potential assailants.  We're taught to be cautious and skeptical, in order to protect ourselves from those who would do us harm.
Our cultural norms assume an aggressive sexuality in all men.  We also work from a premise that rape is an inevitability, and instead of simply encouraging men not to rape women, we teach women to try to avoid situations in which they might be raped.
Men are not raised to see all women as potential attackers.  And while they would be wise to use caution when meeting women from the Internet, because not everyone is who they say they are, they frequently aren't as cautious about strangers as women are. 
This isn't misandry, and it wouldn't be misogyny for a man to be distrustful of a woman.  It's not misanthropy to insist on public meetings and STI tests before you fuck someone.  It's just good sense.

Also, people in positions of cultural privilege complaining about how they're discriminated against never come across very well.

barrick (welcome to the boards, BTW), I'm having a very hard time following your thoughts.  They started with the concept that women's sexuality was okay and men's was not, and now seems to think that men are judged as criminals why women are not.

1. I'm straight.  Men's sexuality and women's sexuality is inextricably linked for me.  I can't have one without the other.  Or was sex itself not what you meant by "sexuality"?

2. "Guilty until proven otherwise"?  Are you referring to a court of law?  Guilty of what, specifically?

3. I get a funny feeling that someone accused you f being misogynistic and you're making excuses about it by asking weirdly phrase questions.  Either your writing skills are not that hot, or you're deliberately making it vague so you don't get blasted.

My guess - and this is ONLY a guess - is that you're saying that when a man makes a pass at a woman, he can get frowned upon more than a woman doing the same to a man.  I would go as far as to say that although IMO men make rape attempts way more than women, that their attempts are also caught and prosecuted more often.

Did someone accuse you of making unwanted passes?

Status: offline 		I think he's complaining because he keeps insisting any woman he talks to will meet him in an unlocked hotel room, with her naked and blindfolded, and as a result he can't get laid.

The only constant in all your relationships is you, op. If you would meet people to make friends instead of zeroing in on sex, you might well find people more trusting of you.

Because although this may be your reality, it isn't everyone else's. The Man is the first person everyone turns to when in trouble. Strange women off the street have been known to come up and ask for his help when they have car problems. He doesn't exude creepy vibes.

Therefore since specific examples can be given to refute your premise, it obviously isn't true.

I am greatful that your generalization of how women are raised doesn't include myself. I was raised with the thought that the ONLY person that can make me a victim is me. I was raised to be cautious and aware of everyone and to trust my gutt instinct. I was raised to watch and observe people. Men and women. I raise my children, my son and daughter in this manner.

Not picking on you, but just curious from an answer you gave in the travel/whore/slut thread. Do you also feel that just going with a stranger for a weekend trip where sex is clearly the activity of the day is cautious? I only ask because you defended the guy, which is your right.

Oh, and for the record? I don't agree with what blushingflower said either. I believe we are responsible for ourselves when it comes to safety.

I agree Men shouldn't commit actual rape. But not telling women to avoid dangerous situations is simply ridiculous. There will always be dangerous individuals. Instead of simply hoping for a perfect world we should hope for a perfect world AND take precautions. For example I don't take shortcuts through alleyways at night. People are taught from childhood not to rob people, but I don't want to take the chance. It is a simple as that. Avoid dangerous situations.

Also self-defense classes and personal handguns for everyone. :-D

This thread, though, I do not grok in any way. Is mens SEXUALITY to be trusted? Why would sexuality be a thing to be trusted or not? I trust PEOPLE, or not. I do not expect a woman to rape me, true, but so what? I don't expect a man will, either, because I don't live in fear/paranoia. I try to be cautious.
