Roughly one block from his destination, the passenger, identified as 21-year-old Michael Enright, of Brewster in upstate New York, allegedly asked Sharif, "Are you Muslim?" When Sharif said yes, Enright pulled out a knife and slashed Sharif in the neck, face and shoulders, police said

Imagine if Pakistan or Iran or Syria had thousands and thousands of white American taxicab drivers. Think there might be more than one isolated incident by a solitary crazy dude?

The truth of the matter is that prejudiced attitudes and attacks against Muslims are on the rise. But according to some on these boards, the way to stop these incidents is for Muslims to convert to Christianity.

One Muslim gets injured by a lone nut in the United States and it makes the news... thats actually pretty good, considering how many Muslims are here.

Not that anyone will care, or change, or give a damn what I think or have to say about it, but I am getting
-REALLY FUCKING TIRED-
of all the narrow-minded bigoted Muslim-bashing, on this site and elsewhere.
This stabbing is a symptom of a much greater illness.
It's like this, people: most Muslims are peaceful and innocent of wrongdoing. No, sorry, they are not all either terrorists, in cahoots with terrorists, or approving of terrorists, and are no more like them than most Xtians are like the fruitbats from Westboro Baptist Church. They are not happy about the state of war. What happened on 9/11 was not. their. fault. They don't all veil and beat their wives and children. Most of them just want to live, love, work, worship Allah (who I'm veritably certain does not approve of all this war shit either), and raise their families in peace, more or less just like we all do. And IMO, as long as they remain peaceful and law-abiding, I believe that they have just as much of a right to live and be here as any of the rest of us.
P.S. If this post makes me unpopular, I really couldn't give half a shit less. When does the hate stop? Srsly.

Is the Islamaphobia that that youre going on and on and on about... in any way comparable to the Caucasianophobia our nation is experiencing?

Well, I don't really see it as a right issue honestly. Nor does your story indicate any such thing. That's reading into it what you want to read into it.

I posted the link to the yahoo story for the simple reason that I expected the assumption you just made to come out of this headline. There seems to be some question as to where the young man works, but if he works where he says he does, then the yahoo story notes it as a left-leaning operation. I figured that might avoid the immediate spewing of hatred and supposition towards Christians and conservatives, at least until it's confirmed or denied.

You gotta admit, some folks are reading that story expecting him to be one or the other and probably looking for it so they can rush back and post some kind of drivel.

There is an anti-muslim sentiment in this country. Given recent history, I don't expect that would be too difficult to understand. While i agree most are peaceful folk, I also will flat out state without reservation that islam is behind many of the wars in the world today, and that any place it takes over, people seem to suffer.

I have nothing against them personally, but I'm not going to don rose colored glasses for them either. Just like I won't don them for anyone.

Status: offline 		Some people can't discuss anything without trying to turn it into a right vs left fight. It's sad, but I don't see it changing anytime soon.

Personally it is situations like this that make me glad we have hate laws in place. It is sad that we need them, but as long as there are people like Enright running around it looks like we will.

Some people appear to consider it perfectly rational and morally necessary to hate hatred wherever they find it except in themselves.
