to that i say, why should I? my beemer costs a few thousand dollars less, and with some minor modifications i can make it every bit as "real" as the harley... such as...

a.  i can load a couple of hundred pounds of lead in the saddle bags to make it more sluggish, less responsive and generally feel more truck-like.

b.  i can take the brake pads off, soak them in oil for a few days, then replace them so i won't stop quite as quickly.

c.  i can loosen all the nuts and bolts on the bike so over time pieces will rattle off

d.  i can remove all the gasket seals, let them dry out in the hot sun for a few days, then replace them so the engine and tranny leaks fluid on my garage floor.

e.  slap an eagle sticker on the tank and call it a hardley.

see, every bit as "real" as a harley

From this spiel i gather you have never owned a Harley, own one then come back and post.

Do some research while you are at it.

The leaking oil was part of the design on the earlier models, not bad gaskets, it is how the chain was kept lubed. You might also want to research acceleration and brake times on HD's while you are at it.

I can send you to web sites of numerous bike runs where you can view Harleys by the tens of thousands cruising through those canyons, can you send me to sites documenting the same for any other ride?

I have found that while there are a few who do prefer some other brand of street bike to Harley most who have actually owned a HD never go back to any other ride.

Sounds like another case of Harley envy to me.

Harleys also keep they're value, here is a price comparison on similar sized bikes that started at similar prices new, the HD's value only showed a slight decrease while the BMW's value dropped by more than half.

2000 BMW R1100R
2-Cylinder
4-Stroke
1085cc

Suggested Retail Value
$5495

2000 Harley-Davidson XLC Sportster Custom
2-Cylinder
4-Stroke
1200cc

Suggested Retail Value
$12445

I actually tried to go back to the '50's for prices because older Harleys values usually double or triple from the original new sales price but unfortunately past 1975 the Book value on used BMW's is so low you cannot get a quote for them.

MasterNdorei -> RE: Dominance and Harleys ? (12/11/2006 4:08:14 AM)

Master owns a Harley. i can not speak for Him about this, but it certainly feels like an extension of His domination of life. To ride behind Him makes me feel very safe, connected to Him, and very much the follower... mmmmmmm

Master's dorei

LordVelvet -> RE: Dominance and Harleys ? (12/11/2006 10:02:04 AM)

I am a Dom and I ride. I don't know if they mean anything combined except that they both bring ME happiness. I have wanted a bike since I was a teenager and that was about the same time I was intoduced in to BDSM. They both provide a different yet similiar escape. Just My .02

Of course I wouldn't suggest walking up to the next Hawg rider you meet and asking him if he was submissive..lol.

oooooooooh.......laughing so hard here i can hardly type - am i ever tempted to race up and ask a Hawg rider just that - and then pray that my Hawg is faster than His...*L*.....just in case He happens to be seriously Dominant.....and also lacks a sense of humor...

used to know a ST once....in motorcycle chat....(WBS)...could it be You?

I know this thread is old but, I had to post.

Would not own a harley cuz
1. way toooooo slow~- WHY the need for speed?I ride for the feeling of freedom...grins - ok--and the vibes!
2. do not handle - nonsense....they handle beautifully for where they are meant to be taken.
3. 90% of harley riders are wannabes - wannabe what? i am who i am with our without my Hawg?
4. have more fun on my dirtbikes and
sportbikes. (yes i'm 51 and still riding
dirtbikes) - then good for you - i still prefer my Harley on those long, slow rides....just to enjoy the freedom...and to keep my kidneys where they are...*L*...

WOW is this thread still going?!! Geez Twice.. when you start a thread ,you START a thread ..B.O.L.  I think, it may not be a coralation between Harley riders  and Domination , but perhaps  there might be between Bike riders in general, having a more Dominate streak?

xonemasterx -> RE: Dominance and Harleys ? (1/4/2007 11:21:12 AM)

Should I feel bad for wanting a Vespa?  Am I a sub in Dom's clothing?
Mileage vs Power
Geek vs Cool
Whizzzzz vs Wuggawuggawugga

Help, my Harley fell on me and I can't get up!

(puts on a helmet)

mstrjx -> RE: Dominance and Harleys ? (1/4/2007 12:00:52 PM)

A few weeks back I drove a truck with a Harley strapped down in the bed to the big Harley store just north of Daytona.  The drive was 7 hours.

Does that count?

Scooters and mopeds are king here. I can beat a Harley or any other motorbike across the city and a fair way out into the country before I'd be caught. I simply use the cycle tracks. I've got a bike, though not a Harley but its pointless using it and so I use a bike or a moped. Yeah, it looks geeky but some gals like geeky and if they don't, let them dig gold outta someone else.

Smart v cool. Smart wins.

MMMMudd -> RE: Dominance and Harleys ? (1/6/2007 2:28:43 AM)

LOL I'm living proof that you can be geeky on a Harley! Most of my riding is out on the highway and my sporty is pretty stable when loaded down with tools or camping gear, It's a little laborious in the heaviest traffic but not too bad life is always a compromise isn't it?
I had a real Jones on last year for one of the 250 Ninjas, cheap, reliable and light, for city traffic it would be hard to beat. And As I've learned on this thread  mistresses don't walk up to guys on Harleys and ask if their submissive, maybe on the Ninja-lette. :)

Nope...but I have heard the term "whore"; We Haul Our Ride Everywhere....lol.

By the way Meatcleaver...the helmet is to put under your kickstand so it doesn't sink in the sand....best use I've seen. (mumbles something about a Vespa)

Lmao, that is not the sound a HD makes, if yours is making that sound you have some wrenching to do.

Three comments here; First, the shiny side belongs up, the rubber side down; Second, get thee to a gym if you can't get your bike off of you; Third, on the occasion that a harley rider needs help picking up his bike there are always other wind bros who will automatically jump in and help.

Oh and ps, helmets and helmet laws suck!

Pets katt on cute head, it is ok katt yours is a good ride......

WorldofSilence -> RE: Dominance and Harleys ? (1/6/2007 5:07:19 AM)

I have to agree with another poster that bikes don't strictly mean your a Dom.

I have a love for older bikes, the HD is a beautiful bike to ride, however given a choice I would want an Enfield or a Norton, I got the love of bikes from My father who built up a 1973 Honda CB750 k2, so I grew to love the british shape for bikes, however a HD isn't really a good thing to own if you live in england the weather is not brillant and if you have crome on it, then your asking for it...

With that said My father is not Dom, he is a normal northen bloke who happens to like bikes.

Which I'm proud to say I've taken on that love as well, I hate the whiny sounding plastic "things" that are out and about, much prefer the more throaty bikes.

Just My thoughts :)

eyesopened -> RE: Dominance and Harleys ? (1/6/2007 5:40:36 AM)

To me, the Harley is a phallic symbol of power and i am extremely attracted to the One who controls that power.  Like Pavlog's dog i react to that sound.  Regardless of the power of another bike, i don't react the same to something that sounds like a very large sewing machine.  For me, the vibrations aren't erotic unless ben-wa balls are introduced which i highly recommend. *grins*

Chakota -> RE: Dominance and Harleys ? (1/6/2007 6:18:53 AM)

Loard Velvet:
Your write, "I am a Dom and I ride." well, I am a submissive and I ride… a chopper.  However, it seems I am always redesigning it mentally and I wind up rebuilding it almost every year.
But I have another bike I cherish, a “Black Shadow” and over the years I have spent enough money restoring it to make the cost of a new Harley look small.
I haven’t missed the “Jack Pine” (Sturgis) or Daytona in the last 25 years and somehow I don’t confuse the mindset of the rider with either a dominant or submissive. When push comes to shove the head busting will occur.
