So I finally started reading the series and am up to the point where Bill has Bubba the "not quite right" vampire watching over Sookie from a spot in the woods.

So far they have referred to Bubba as "that guy from Memphis" and "some singer" and everyone has been told not to refer to him by that "other" name.  Is he supposed to be Elvis?  LOL

YIkes! Spoiiler! Hah, I haven't read the books, but I'm enjoying the show and it hasn't gone that far (I guess). Are the books good? Are you enjoying them?

PS - Sounds like Elvis, but that can't be right! I heard he returned back to his home planet.

Yes, it is supposed to be the King.

Yes it is Elvis.

Don't try and match the books and the series.  The series is only loosely based upon the books and takes some very different paths.

I haven't read the books.  A potential Elvis character is a bit too much for My tastes.

We won't talk about the recent hokey development in the last two episodes of the tv series.

Oops! That was thoughtless of me, I didn't even think about the spoiler factor. Sorry!

I wouldn't worry about that. I don't think the Elvis vamp is ever going to make it into the series.  The series is way past where Elvis appears in the books.

Yes, Bubba is the King......spoiler bit below....
.
.
.
.
.
The backstory is that when he was brought into the morgue, the vamp attendant detected a spark of life and "brought him over".  However, due to the drugs in his system, he did'nt cross over well, so he's a bit different.  He's sorta like the family embarassment, however he is cared for by the various kingdoms.

And yeah, the series has the chracters in the books, plus some, but it's really straying from the books, which is a shame, because alot more happens in the books that because of what they've done with the characters, isn't going to be in the series.  It's really disappointing, actually.  But I'll watch it, because as long as I don't remember the books while watching it, it is pretty cool.

I've got every book, and have read each of them about 5 times.  I really like Dead to the World....now that one would have great possibilities had they left the series like the books!  *Eric*  mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm*DROOOOL*

Books are always better than tv shows or movies based on them. It's a fact of life.

It's Bubba's fondness for cats that always makes me laugh.

You buggers... evil evil buggers alll of you!!!
I resisted True Blood, but now Im a fan thanks to something mentioned on the fora.... NOW I want to start reading the books
As a King and Barker fan, I realise how little books/movies/series are alike but its piqued my interest for the initial outlay.
In the series, I adore Lafeyette, that guy has the most gorgeous smile and eyes

I'm with you on that one.  (The recent male on male scenes between him and Jesus aren't pushing Me away, either.  )  I particularly like that they didn't go the stereotypical route that he would be weak in some way.

"Let your friends know that a couple of fags kicked your ass!"

I loved it!

There is *something* about this show.  The director is gay, right?  Maybe it's something in the way he portrays men, but I can honestly say that every single key male character is "not my type" or a man that I was NOT in any way really attracted to initially, and now I honestly am attracted to EVERY single key male character in a very lustful way, despite them being all totally different.  There is not ONE of those men that I would "turn down" if given the opportunity (of course, talking in fantasy here, and talking about the persona they are portraying - nothing to say about the actor per se).

None of them are "my type" at first glance. I am even finding myself totally hot for Eric, whose body language and look is NOT my type at all.  Lafayette and Jesus - both not my type in their fine bodies and looks, but they both have my drooling.  Even dopey Jason, the typical pretty boy with no brains, what is IT about him?

Or maybe I am just horny.

How could anyone not be hot for the True Blood guys. My head spins thinking of Bill, Eric, Alcide, etc. Even though Sookie is totally annoying.

It is a veritable smorgasboard of deliciousness.

If I was watching it with someone, I would be jumping their bones the second it was over!

Part of that body language is almost assuredly director's influence.  You're dealing with a man that literally stands a foot taller than co-star Anna Paquin.  This means that many of his scenes are shot with him having a bit of a 'hunched over' look.  Very much the same method as when Steward and Reed (who also had a significant height difference) in "It's A Wonderful Life".

So you've not got to the bit where Sookie annoys Polly by constantly taking the kettle off?

I ordered season 2 last night while at work, so I'll have it pretty soon...well within 3-15 business days.....and I ordered the Sookie short stories that sort of fill in the gaps, one being the death of her cousin in New Orleans.

Lucy, go ahead and cave...read the books, they are great!  The first book and the first season are sort of running along the same lines, but judging from everything I've heard, the second series completely veers off from the books.  But as long as you don't make the comparisons, both are a great way to kill some time.  I'm going to start reading the other Charlaine Harris series books.....I just have to decide which ones!
