There are differences of course.....for example a catholic minister expects you to turn up every Sunday...whereas a CofE minister is happy enough for you to turn up once a year providing you have faith......but there are similarities between the CofE and the catholic church in a way there isn't between the German Protestant churches and Catholicism.

Born an Atheist, raised Episcopalian (CofE in America), and now a born-again Atheist, I'm here to tell you that I like to say "Episcopalianism is as close to Catholicism as you can get without bending a knee to Rome." ETA: Glad that I was raised in a "near Catholic" environment. All those wonderful traditions and cathedrals and music, etc. BUT none of that over-riding guilt. LOL! (Did y'all know that the National Cathedral is Episcopalian?) So the two gay guys go the Catholic/Epsicopal Church. The Easter procession goes right by them, cross, choir, incense, everything..... Later, one says to the other, "What did you think of the procession?" The other answers, "Loved the gowns, but that one guy's purse was on fire." I guess you had to be there..... English sense of humour.... Other BBC comedy programs were mentioned, but I didn't see "Are You Being Served?" and the always wonderful Mrs. Slocum (especially her pussy jokes and colorful hair.) Mr. Humphries is a close 2nd. Alan Turing deserves a 2nd mention. ETA: 2nd mentions also to Dame Judi (Dench) and Dame Helen (Mirren) especially the later's portrayal of Elizabeth II in "The Queen."

I worked with a guy once he divorced an American woman and remarried a Bristish lass, he told me( I was single at the time) if you ever get married Marry a British or European woman...they dont have attitude and know how to treat their men.

First, my husband, though he can be an utter prick at times. Second, my ancestors...Henry, thanks for the courage to face the unknown in 1765. Third, and maybe I should have counted it first, Jane Austen! English breakfasts followed later by tea on a misty moisty afternoon and all of the various and sundry things that others have mentioned.

Alan Rickman!!!!! Hugh Grant J. K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter books) Shows from a channel I could access when I lives in California, called BBC, I think. I saw that veterinarian one, from books by James Herriot, one called Fawlty Towers or something, Benny Hill, and others. It was great fun and I miss it. Big Ben. Old buildings with character, and not little ugly painted boxes, stuff with history and character and ivy and all that. Those guards who won't move a muscle no matter what people do or say. <laughing> I wonder what training they get to be able to stay poker faced instead of laughing at the antics of the tourists. Places that would make me wonder...like Cerne Abbas Giant. (No, I wouldn't return home with chalk on my back.) I've never been outside of the USA, but if I ever win the lottery big time, visiting the UK is on my bucket list.
