Brain -> BP Investigation Blocked By Senate (8/29/2010 9:44:01 PM)

Why are Republicans(Jim DeMint) protecting oil companies(BP)?

BP Investigation Blocked By Senate

The senate blocks investigation of BP.

The House voted 420 to 1 to give the presidential commission investigating the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico full subpoena power.

The Senate blocked it.

No subpoena powers. No real investigation.

I hope people throw his corrupt ass out of the senate.

Jim Demint

Because that is what paid servants do. They protect their employers.

It is what both parties are best at doing.

The great American plutocracy at work.

Politesub53 -> RE: BP Investigation Blocked By Senate (8/30/2010 5:18:27 AM)

I think a full investigation is needed into how the spill happened and what needs to be done. I cant find any reason for either party to object to this. An inquiry is in the best interest of the US, BP and Anglo/American relations.

Funny how Google doesnt turn up any actual news articles on this story, especially in light of how this YouTube video couldnt be any more one sided.

I cant help but wonder what the real story is.

Yeah, I cannot imagine the Senate blocking something so strongly supported and bipartisan.

Sanity -> RE: BP Investigation Blocked By Senate (8/30/2010 6:18:49 AM)

There is not a single news account of this to be found. Dont you find that odd?

A few clips of partisan politicians spewing on and on about something is essentially meaningless without the full context being available.

Why should anyone ever have to point this out? Its basic stuff, always get both sides to a story before trying to decide where the truth of the matter lies.

First you haver to turn your computer "on" for it to work.

Then you type into your Google search engine "senate blocks bp investigation"....You hit "enter."

In order for me to explain why you are incapable of doing this is probably against TOS.

Sanity -> RE: BP Investigation Blocked By Senate (8/30/2010 7:00:05 AM)

Do that and you get no news results, as I pointed out already.

hertz -> RE: BP Investigation Blocked By Senate (8/30/2010 7:07:36 AM)

Odd, I got about 9,430,000 results in 0.30 seconds...

The top results said it was the Republicans doing the blocking. There's a surprise.

EDIT: On saying that, none of the results originate from right wing US press outlets.

News results?

Nope.

Does anyone here have the slightest clue what a balanced news story is even supposed to look like?

Jeffff -> RE: BP Investigation Blocked By Senate (8/30/2010 7:19:17 AM)

I believe a balanced news story only happens on Fox News.

Sanity -> RE: BP Investigation Blocked By Senate (8/30/2010 7:23:46 AM)

Some people on the left apparently believe that a selectively edited YouTube clip of Democrats talking is balanced news...

Theres a word for that, too -  "Gullible".

DCWoody -> RE: BP Investigation Blocked By Senate (8/30/2010 7:33:20 AM)

Sanity is correct to be suspicious (it had to happen sometime). This appears to be a case of skillful political manouvering on the part of the dems, they gave the impression of trying to rush the bill through the Senate when the Republicans weren't present (fuck knows where they were, this is beyond my knowledge of the american system).

The few Republicans who were there found this highly suspicious, and objected.....note, they didn't actually object to the content of the bill, but to having it read or voted on.....on the grounds that ya can't just wait til your opponents have gone for lunch to rush something though, votes should be an accurate representation of the house, etc.

This footage is included in the video....but what isn't is that later on, when the republicans got back from wherever the fuck they were and actually read the thing, they gave it their backing.

tl;dr - story is bullshit, don't believe youtube vids ffs.

Hillwilliam -> RE: BP Investigation Blocked By Senate (8/30/2010 7:36:48 AM)

The only way to get balanced news on TV is to have a teeter totter with 2 identical TV's on either end.  Preferrably with Nickelodian on one of them and TOON network on the other.

That's as close as you will get to fair or balanced coverage.  Everyone has an agenda and their own little slant.

flcouple2009 -> RE: BP Investigation Blocked By Senate (8/30/2010 7:47:37 AM)

I'm not going to point out the irony of someone who post opinion pieces and tries to pass them off as news suddenly wanting "a real news source".  (Oh wait I just did)

Yes, there are actual news pieces, not my problem that you don't want to find them.  Brain is late to the show since this happened almost 2 months ago and the Republicans quickly put pressure on DeMint to shut up.  But do you really need a news piece since you have DeMints's words from start to finish?

It never really made a big news cycle because DeMint let this fall out of his mouth on June 30th, and the Republicans telling him to back off on July 1st.
