How about we try this: Pleading guilty just means he is hoping for a lighter sentence. Unfortunately, English doesn't have a commonly used second person singular pronoun. German uses "man", meaning "one". I will often use the word "one", as it avoids ambiguity. In hillwilliam's sentence quoted above, "one" or "a person" would be a better choice than "you". RML's revision is better, though, IMO.
