Perhaps it has been months... you travel in different forums than I do! I am not a moderator here, but I support them because I respect the job, and because they are my friends. They are not creating the policies, just implementing them. I think that I would have a hard time distinguishing between one person calling a gay man a homo, and another referring to a lady as "manzilla". In what way are those intrinsically different? Moderation does not involve moderators reading EVERY SINGLE POST. Most of it is reporting, monitoring of problem posters, and sheer coincidence of seeing something scroll across the feed. I don't expect every single thing to be pounced on. Shoot, I only recently learned how to use that REPORT button! It makes me sad that I REALLY have no clue what is and is not a bad thing to say. Due to my early experiences here, I have always been cautious about what I say. Now I am even hesitant to make a joke---is it a hijack?

Good question. Having been...ahem...moderated before, ahem, I have learned this: Not to call someone a name. You criticize what someone says, not who they are, i.e. it is stupid to play with people you don't know rather than you are so stupid to play with people you don't know. The more difficult things to access are when a hijack is bad, if you are being too funny/sarcastic and it is being taken wrong, being off topic, etc. I feel for the moderators and believe that if lunatics come here and go insane, the should be modded; but most free speech should be allowed, if done civilly. Which I admit, is quite hard to do sometimes when you want to smack the shit out of some moron.

~FR I just wanted you all to know that I am returning today fresh off of moderation. I have learned my lesson and promise to avoid certain posters in the future. ps - I didn't answer the poll because I thought it was stupid (Mods, notice I attacked the post and not the poster.)

[;)] I'm with you, Sexyred, I know that I tend to chatter, and if the thread is pointless shit, how much damage is being caused there? Are we here to pontificate or converse? I have managed so far to not describe people in the words that are running through my mind. Domi knows that when I call him a fishfucker, it is out of the great love and respect I have for the ChocoJesu and the bearer of the Domidong. I can wonder why Icarys is so consistently unpleasant to other posters, but never seems to get modded, and I manage to not call him names. I am glad that he has dogs though. Unconditional lovers, dogs. Plus, they have limited knowledge of human speech. I moderate on Fetlife, where EVERYONE KNOWS who the moderators are, and it is a giant game of whack a mole. I wish that the moderators were public here, too, I have never liked anonymous moderation. Why the secrecy, anyway? OMG. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN CLIQUE, don't they. [:o]

LadyHib, I for one am for anonymous moderation. Think of it as 'quality control.' For anyone who has an engineering background such as myself, then you know that quality control works best when it is unbiased and uninfluenced by those producing the product (in this case, the discussions). It is a completely separate and neutral component of the organization. Now it's hard to say if the Mods can ever be truly neutral if they come from among us, but when they start revealing their identity and posting and contributing to the threads, then there is at least a perception of 'nonneutrality.' This perception should be avoided if there is going to be any suggestion of fair and impartial moderation. I prefer not to know who the mods are friends with and who they agee with. I may begin to question their judgement. Just my personal view, of course.
