Aneirin -> BBW, what is the meaning of this ? (8/31/2010 5:12:35 PM)

When cruising the profiles on the other side I come cross the abbreviation BBW too many times and it more often than not in the first sentence of the written profile. Now I understand the abbreviation means Big Beautiful Women, which I take as the person owning the term refers to themself as, which is no problem to me, but ? But why mention such a thing in the first sentence of a profile, surely a person is more than their outward appearance and if a person was comfortable with themselves, then surely they would not need to state they were a BBW first and foremost before anything else.

Furthermore, seeing as obesity appears to be a nouveau western thing, should those who might classify themselves as BBW quit with the statement as it is more common than not ?

Or is it what we are told about obesity rates more exaggerated than what really is ?

Now I do understand fat is not seen as the ideal, but why, why this fascination with dumping weight, when it is the female of our species is prone to carrying more weight and that from their physiology of being the gender that gives birth to the future of our species, fat is necessary for both mother and sprog and with that women who have undergone childbirth tend to have the most problem with weight, which is to an extent caused by the nature of themselves.

But BBW, why the need to state such a thing in the first sentence of a profile, is it pride or defence ?

Aneirin, if you only knew how fat women are reviled, you might understand.

BBW is a WARNING, as much as anything, that the owner of said profile is a person who is not a supermodel, whose bones do not stick out, who has natural breasts, and a belly and bum to match. BECAUSE THAT'S HOW WOMEN ARE.

Defense, pride, defiance, I think it's all of those. I am overweight, but not a BBW. Still, I let folks know that I am a fat girl, and I will be a fat girl tomorrow too, thank you very much. If that is an issue, then the other party needs to move on, sharpish.

smartsub10 -> RE: BBW, what is the meaning of this ? (8/31/2010 5:20:31 PM)

I don't have the fact that I'm a full-figured woman in the first sentence of my profile but it is in there.  Why?  Because men who prefer slim or skinny women can skip my profile and move on.  Has nothing to do with who I believe I am as a person, my self-confidence, my submissiveness, etc.

Amen!

I grew up with four brothers who all tried their best to get the best looking gf/wife they could get in comparison to the others. It was truly pathetic to watch them come home with these girls and show them off. Each ended up with a woman with a bit of poundage... and very much in love with these women.

I am not saying anything against skinny women/ supermodels or anyone of the sort. I do believe we all have a place in this lifestyle. And stating what you are when you understand some wont appreciate/approve/find appealing that attribute about who you are is smart.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: BBW, what is the meaning of this ? (8/31/2010 5:30:29 PM)

It is code for fat chick.  Some can't stand the word fat, even though it is an adjective, like tall, short, thin, cockeyed, one legged, etc etc.

It is necessary to state being a fat chick from the git go though.  Believe it or not, no matter how comfortable you are with your self, fat is a deal breaker for many.  All it takes is a few times getting cussed at for "hiding" the fact you are fat, and most get the hint.

Signed
a fat chickie

I've gotten an unsolicited cussing out just because the guy doesn't like fat chicks!! [:)]

....and in one of the strangest ironies.....ever see a male profile with "BAM" ("Big Attractive Man") in it? ..... I'd bet not...yet I'd bet there are far more large men here than women.

The fun ones are the profiles created by 5'-7", 300# men....who in seeking a woman, say things like "....no fatties need apply"...or my favorite... "weight must be proportionate to height" (unless it is them...) When you get to your 50's, you realize how dumb it was to not consider women because of their "size" alone.

It's just information. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't think that everyone who leads with that data has some underlying reason why. I don't equate an early disclosure of that fact (or any other fact) as a sign that they are not comfortable with it. I would be quicker to equate the absence of same as a flag that they are uneasy about it although there's no real connection there, either.

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: BBW, what is the meaning of this ? (8/31/2010 5:54:18 PM)

At one point and time, it was in my profile. Cant remember if it still is. Its just my way of letting a viewer know, so that if that is not his thang, he can move on. I am not everyones cup of tea, so its best to weed them out (or have them weed themselves out) before they get to know me, and realize my body is a deal breaker for THEM.

My only experience of fat was the fact that I was married to a woman for ten years who when I met her was of a size that was comfortable to me, which was not slim, but not fat, normal I would think for a woman in her late thirties who had given birth to three kids, but as time went on she got larger and I got the blame for that, it was my fault she had become in her words fat and that because she was unhappy. Strangely, the same thing her ex husband told me, he also got that blame too.

She tried slimming diet after slimming diet ad finitum with no lasting effect, I tried to tell her, her biggest problem was weak stomach muscles, something she could sort out with concentrated exercise, but that was not for her, one false hope after another false hope with whatever was the latest diet and with that, the cabbage soup diet was nasty.

I do understand though this fascination we have with weight, and size, as it seems media has a hand in it, for they tell us what the ideal is in every person, the result being brainwashed into the ideal physique, people pass people by looking for that ideal we are told we must have to feel complete.

But how times have changed, the ideal female physique of the 1950's to now, quite frankly I find the 1950's physique more attractive.

UniqueBBWsub -> RE: BBW, what is the meaning of this ? (8/31/2010 6:12:03 PM)

Its just an easy way of letting guys know that youre a big girl and no skinny chic. Then they can move on and not waste their time if theyre not into fat girls and not waste yours either. I've had lots of guys say, well, you don't look big in your pic and then had to tell them, look I'm a size 22, I AM big! It would be disasterous if a guy didnt know and then turned up and was really pissed off. And some people just have a real problem with fat women full stop, I've had some awful abuse online in recent months just for saying no thank you and they use your size against you then as a means of trying to personally get at you which is such a cheap dirty underhand thing to do. I find its always good to be upfront and not pretend to be something I'm not. I am big and have been for a very long time and I'm not gonna get slimmer any time soon, especially with back problems to deal with which limits what exercise I can do and sometimes makes me depressed with those limitations and the pain, so the guy needs to be happy about my size from the word go and not try and change me or pretend he's okay about it when really he aint. So I make it known straight away in order to get the right person and weed out the ones who wouldnt be remotely interested in anyone over a size 10. And I have to say as a bi female I find very curvy women with extra padding and big hips, bum, and tits far more sexy and appealing than most slim women but thats going off subject now.

Believe me, it really bites ass to go on diet after diet and go to the gym and exercise 2 hours every day til you can hardly move.......and still be fat. It's waaaaaaay easier to accept myself at the size I am and be with Someone Who accepts me that way too. I've gone on truckloads of diets and gone to truckloads of gyms, and I'm not gonna anymore, cause sometimes it just doesn't work.

Aneirin -> RE: BBW, what is the meaning of this ? (8/31/2010 6:41:50 PM)

My ex was voluptuous if seen front or rear on,a fantastic figure but side on, well, we got so many comments like; ''When is the baby due'' etc. That was her fat problem and that I understand from weak stomach muscles. She had been slim before I was told and she even showed me pictures of what she was like, which kind of made me wonder why she was doing that, but she had done the gym thing, but would not now due to her statement that she became addicted to the endorphins. Now weak stomach muscles I take as common to a woman who has given birth, but it is not a permanent thing, for it can be controlled, even returned to how it was, but that takes effort, which I came to understand was something my ex did not want to use.

One day a return from the Doc, she came out and said she was termed obese and in such a way, that I felt she was rubbing my nose in it. Is it common for people to put on weight to torture their other half ?

When the marriage finally broke and we split, I heard she was exercising regularly and shifting weight, later communication she was proud to say how much weight she had lost, to which I replied I never had a problem with her size, only her complaining about it and blaming me for it. I am of the belief that if something bothers one, then do something about it, as to others, they can mind their own business.

Anyway, BBW from Wikipedia

But exactly what defines a BBW, is there a clinical definition or is it a self imposed description ?

sweetsub1957 -> RE: BBW, what is the meaning of this ? (8/31/2010 7:33:54 PM)

I guess if one considers themselves to be a BBW, then they are. I don't know of any universal definition.

Also, I don't know how common it is for a spouse to put on weight "to torture their other half."

Thanks, I am so glad someone pointed out the irony. It really is funny. What is also interesting is that men don't seem to ever be put in a position to be defensive when they are large, but many women do. Society seems to accept fat men, but not fat women.

I say to all the bigger ladies out there, confidence is key. If you think you are the bomb, you are the bomb.

In 2010 in the online dating world, if someone does not know what BBW means, they must be hiding under a rock.

Nah, the equivalent is short men.

Anywho, I'd hope BBW would imply a certain amount of self-confidence/self-assurance regarding the issue.

I agree with this; i.e. I'm big AND I'm beautiful AND I'm alllllll boomshakalaka woman, so to speak.
(It's true, especially with some gals I know.. *sees kyttyn up there*)

sexyred1 -> RE: BBW, what is the meaning of this ? (8/31/2010 9:08:07 PM)

I disagree. I love shorter men. My most amazing men were no taller than 5"8.

The problem with BBW is that many women do not believe the second B, Beautiful.

If you believe it, you are confident and self assured. If you don't you will radiate insecurity. No one wants that.

Because then some asshole will start a fat chicks thread and all hell will break loose.
