Panic. It prevents you from being calm and going over details. Not to mention you usually get blindfolded immediately. But guys with big beards and mustaches tend to have attention paid to that, not to whether or not there's a nearly invisible scar on the right eyebrow. And traditionally revolutionaries don't have running hot water so they don't shave.

Ah, but in this case, the kidnapper was a Nigerian 'General' who had apparently been the OP's driver for some length of time before kidnapping him.
