ORIGINAL: mistoferin Any time you open an email on collarme you will notice this note right above the text of the email: Note: Any messages involving Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Singapore, wiring money, online escrow services, or cashiers checks are scams and should be ignored. Be wary of requests for your personal email address or money from people you just met. I got contacted by such a scammer here. She (or, more likely, he) avoided this by putting herself in London, England. Not an implausible place for the scion of some minor African potentate to call home. When I sent back a "Hi, why did you contact me?" message, she wanted to chat online. And then, of course, came the big revelation that she was the only daughter of the king of this one particular region of... (wait for it)... Nigeria! She never got around to telling me about all the money she wanted to smuggle out of the country, though. I suspect that the people working the keyboards at the other end have specific instructions to make a quick guesstimate of their potential victim's intelligence, and abort if they think their pigeon isn't likely to be snared. In my case, I had scrupulously correct grammar and spelling (as an Eng. Lit. major) rapid typing, and background in research. Even while we were conversing, I was pulling up data in other windows about when this particular monarchy was deposed, then reinstated. I knew the name of her purported father, and those of his two(!) daughters plus their birthdates... and their ages didn't mesh with her CM profile. I had phrases in her own (alleged) tribal dialect, and I think I was quickly coming to know more about her supposed homeland than she did herself.. She suddenly had other things she needed to do, and I never heard from her again. Maybe the warning should be amended to add that if you find yourself chatting that doesn't seem to be aware that their profile was on a BDSM-specific site, there's a scam pending.
