I do think that Theater (not just Musical) tends to draw a higher percentage of people who have a different mindset than the norm.  I am very involved with theater in My area, and have several very good friends who are gay.  We, for the most part, straight or gay, have a tendency to be looser and less restricted.  I have found that I can be more Myself, tease, and have even come out more to select friends in My theater Family.  More so than I would in other areas.

I have "come out" to one gay man I trusted in local community theater; he is in a local bdsm munch group as well (although I haven't visited our local bdsm "club", he told me about it and offerred to take me there).

As the the NY/Broadway versions of Phantom, vs local versions, I honestly think it depends on the touring company.  I did not see Phantom in NY (Les Mis totally blew Me away, though!), but I loved the touring company when it came to Az.

I saw a touring company production of Les Mis 3 years ago in my hometown and loved it! I may see Les Mis when I visit NYC end of May instead of Phantom; I'll to check and see if it's playing!

Ok your point is well taken usually when people say deviant they mean it in a thou art an unnatural abomination kind of a way. I don’t think there are many people outside of George Bush’s office who think carbon emissions are moral anymore even the Archbishop of Canterbury said that it is mans duty to take care of the planet and that anyone who does not do that will carry a heavy burden in the eyes of the lord, I think is a sort of a Archbishopy way of saying are your feet warm yet George I wonder if he will listen given how intrested he always seams to be in doing things in the the name of god etc. I think there is quite a difference between gay men in America and ones in Britain as far as show tunes are concerned anyway.

I agree with you on one level, but in the states, at least, where every guy with a mid-life crisis tries to prove he can still get it up by driving a hummer, morality seems to be defined almost exclusively by sexual issues (gay marriage, abortion).  And of course, in the translation of the bible that I read Jesus said all this stuff about poverty and taking care of the least among us and nothing about judging others.  Oh, wait, he actually said NOT to judge others--evidently God would have time and none of us were perfect.  Weird that the most vocal of his proponents would be pro-war, pro-wealth and justify it by judging us on what we do with consenting adults.  But, anyway...

I think that the Bush administration is now trying to demonize bdsmers because all those gay people in Massachusetts went and got married and, the sky didn't fall in--some of them adopted kids, some of them went and cared for ill partners.  They all of a sudden got so much less scary that it isn't even controversial in Mass.  Now, even me as a cock-eyed optimist doesn't think the gay marriage issue is over yet, but there is absolutely no doubt that this issue will resolve only with full rights.  Whether that takes 10 years or 50 years, that's the only way it can resolve short of V is for Vendetta land.
So they have started attacking the BDSMers, closing down web sites only if they have any BDSM content (or requiring credit cards to prove you are an adult, because I'm sure all of kinky liberals really want the government to have a paper trail on what we are doing, yeah).  But then one out of five Americans believe the sun revolves around the earth, so... (And this is related to the thread because...?)

I had never really thought of it as a connection before, but, yes I think most of the kinky folk I know do enjoy musicals (especially the girls).

I realize that I clicked on the wrong "reply to" button, but it will only let me edit, not delete, so here we are.

"Whatever that acronym stands for" is wiiwd (what it is we do).
