Curb us from enthusiastically supporting free speech, despite so many so-called Liberals' hatred of it?

I seriously doubt it.

I don't know about sanity, but after making this announcement I'm thinking the military will make sure this burning doesn't happen.   It's one thing to burn a book for attention, but when you put men's lives in danger who are overseas fighting, the line has been crossed.   I anticipate the military stepping in.

They almost have to, after making the announcement that troops will be put in possible harms way if this nutjob goes ahead with his plans.  Can you imagine the huge outcry if they don't, and retaliation occurs overseas?

The military has no authority to step in unless/until POTUS declares a state of martial law, at which point Obama essentially becomes a dictator and the military his personal police force.

When former US Senator Obama et al prominent Democrats of the era repeatedly pronounced the Iraq war lost and that the surge would not only fail but makes things worse they crossed the line of putting the lives of our military personnel fighting overseas in more danger than they already were. And when POTUS Obama recently announced that our combat mission in Iraq had ended and that our combat mission in Afghanistan would end in 2011 he once again put the lives of our military personnel fighting overseas in more danger than they already were. Lefties roundly applauded then. Why not now?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Top US commander: Burning Quran endangers troops (9/7/2010 8:08:56 AM)

The military has no right to step in on American soil. I'm just hoping that the Dovenicks see the light and cancel their plans. probably a vain hope because Religious fanatics (of ALL types) rarely show logical or sane behavior.

AlwaysLisa -> RE: Top US commander: Burning Quran endangers troops (9/7/2010 8:37:41 AM)

If the actions of a civilian put military troops at greater risk, I would think there are ways of stopping the aforementioned actions.  It may not be publicly discussed, but I'm sure there is something that can be done.

Funny, I was reading about this in YahooNews yesterday and they had a picture of some protesters in one of those "Crapistan" countries burning the American flag!
I'd use bacon strips for bookmarks, shit on it then burn it.
What, are they afraid we'll "anger" the muzzlies?
Seen any good cartoons lately?

They have no authority to be in Iraq either. That doesn't seem to bother them any.

I was listening to a talk show this morning in Virginia while passing through. The show, which I've never heard before, was local and had a left of center slant. By far, of the military people who called in, they supported the right even though they thought the decision stupid. The host asked them much the same question, about harm to them. Basic answer from most were, why are we here if not to protect those rights?

As with the mosque deal in New York, the right to do something does not always lead to decisions that promote inclusiveness and good will.

You cant demonstrate moral superiority to a bunch of people just out of the stone age if you act just like them.

I don't believe in "moral superiority" (whatever the fuck that is!) I believe in killing the enemy until he's extinct.
I don't want to "demonstrate", "teach", "feed" "clothe" or "educate."
"No Mr Bond, I want you to die!"
If Gen. Patreaus is attempting to be a "social worker" then he needs to put in his papers and retire.
"Social workers" don't win wars, soldiers do.

AlwaysLisa -> RE: Top US commander: Burning Quran endangers troops (9/7/2010 12:20:03 PM)

No one is disputing their right to demonstrate, or freedom of speech or religion.  The issue at hand is that by excersising those rights, they are jeapordizing the lives of others.

For a group of folks who call themselves a peaceful outreaching society, this should bother them.   Oh wait...this is the same group who sent their kids to school with tshirts claiming Islam is the work of the devil.  Yah, they had the right and were excersising a freedom granted to them by living in this country.   The same country who has men and women fighting in a predominately Islam society, who will be in harms way "because" of the exersised right by a few nuts.   Nice way to show gratitude for the freedoms we are able to enjoy.

Maybe because I've lived through two riots, both in Los Angeles, both racially motivated, I'm a little more cautious when it comes to preventitive measures.   The mob mentality is a scary thing, a lot of innocent lives are involved who have no desire to be.   If stopping this idiot will save a life, then it is my wish he be stopped, at whatever cost.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Top US commander: Burning Quran endangers troops (9/7/2010 2:14:52 PM)

Bottom line.  Do they have the RIGHT to do it?  Absolutely.

Are they asinine, short sighted dumbasses for even announcing their plans to do it?  ABSOLUTELY

You have a right to free speech. You have a RESPONSIBILITY to not unduly endanger the men and women that put their ass on the line every day to protect your right of free speech.
