They look...........well fed.

I love snakes, am fascinated by them, am not afraid of them. BUT the thought of them crawling around in my house just totally gives me the heebie jeebies!

I am weird.

ROFL.  She's been promised to Hadrian.  So when I have the financial backing, I'll have baby ball pythons slithering out of well-kept eggs.

Hello Wyld,

The geckos are adorable! I don't have my own reptiles but my roommate had a corn snake that we fed mice-sicles. She was fascinating to watch and the shedded skin is really cool. However, my mother refused to come in the house with the snake present even if it
was moved to the loft area.

A couple of my friends had a large assortment of lizards and frogs and other pets. Whenever I would housesit for them invariably some of the blasted crickets would escape and hide behind kitchen appliances, taunting the humans who could not catch them! It is also a tricky manuever to catch a 4 foot iguana that is booking across slippery kitchen linoleum making for the back door. A towel thrown over it's head does slow it down momentarily.

PS julia, did you ever wonder if that guy had a sadistic streak?

No, he had an idiot streak. It is illegal to own a rattlesnake...

Depends on what state.  In most states there is a permit or license system for venomous species, and a separate permit for native and/or endangered species.

I am terrified of snakes, lizards, etc.

However, I do have an amazing collection of snake jewelry. I would rather wear them, than run away from them!!

Ok, gonna do all replies at once

Oldest keeps a Ocellated Lizard named Dino, and Youngest is pulling for a Corn Snake.

Had to look up the occellated lizard, very cool! As far as snakes, corn snakes are pretty easy to keep, so a good choice.

Burmese are popular but face it, what are you going to do with a 22 foot, 300# snake in 10 years?

Here's a post I made awhile back about an encounter with a friend's 14' Burmese:
"Snakes do not scare me (obviously). I've owned two burmese pythons, and used to handle many other pythons, boas, and other species. When I was 19, a friend of mine, 'R' had a 14' burmese named Cthulhu, who was fed only black rabbits. I came over one day, not realizing that:
a) Cthulhu was out of the snake room
and
b) that he hadn't eaten in 3 weeks.
unfortunately
c) I was wearing black sneakers
Result: me standing there with a 14' python latched onto my foot and wrapped around me nearly to the waist, squeezing. I called my friend to come get his snake, while letting Cthulhu know that he had bitten more than he could swallow. 'R' took one look, laughed like hell and ran for the camera! The pics were hilarious!!! "

I'm going to get a Jackson's chameleon

Chams are awesome! I have to admit though, their feet freak me out a bit!

Like Steven, I have all sorts of odd things in my yard.

With you and Steven there. Plenty of lizards, snakes, and other wildlife here on the farm. We have an army of blue belly lizards that will run right up and demand to be fed, LOL.

Now we keep a desert tortoise named Archibald because his shell is arched and he's bald.

We have a herd of them on the property. They belong to my boss and have their own huge enclosure.

Those are some beautiful lizards, Wyld!! I would love to have a turtle habitat someday, I really love turtles.

Why thankies! I would love to have a turtle pond. We recently discovered that a box turtle somehow found his way into the tortoise habitat and made himself at home!

There was a guy I was dating when I was in my 20s. He somehow got a hold of a "pet" rattlesnake. He had me come over and watch while he fed it a mouse. I never went out with him again, he was really fucking cute... 6 foot 5, curly brown hair, beautiful eyes, but I have a rattlesnake hard limit.

Got his number? Kidding. Rattlesnakes don't bother me, but they are pretty common around here and my degree is rather in that area.

Awesome pics, thankies! One of my roommates in college had a ball python that we sometimes took to class or into town. He was really mellow as long as  he had a human 'tree' to hang onto.

Another college roommate once 'lost' her 5 foot red tail boa in our house (we went home for break and the housesitter didn't latch the cage properly). I found him 3 weeks later, crawling from one storage box to another in the garage, which was where the rat cage was located. I was happy that he  finally turned up, but amazed that a 5 foot snake was in the house for weeks without us finding him!

Thankies for the compliment! I won't tell them though , they both have entirely too much ego as it is, LOL. IMO, I have found that reptiles are very effective 'relative suppressants'

I have a deep hatred of crickets...

Woah! Dead ringer for my ex-roomie's ball python!

I had two leopard gecko's for years and had two near death experiences as a result of having them!
I was cleaning around the back of the vivarium with a damp cloth and hit a live wire and was consequently electrocuted.
On another occasion I climbed into bed one night and listened to the escaped cricket under my floorboards. The only thing that would get these little escapees was cockroach spray. The noise didn't bother me but it really bothered my (then) husband. I fell asleep and he went off to get the spray. I woke up to find him spraying it near my head and consequently I breathed in all the fumes. That stuff is like bloody laughing gas I sat up in bed with hysterical laughter but I couldn't stop and I was getting serious pains in my chest. My ex husband, thinking it was funny at first, decided I now needed a paramedic. The cockroach spray was thrown out after that and although I didn't mind our house sounding like the amazon at night, my ex did and so the gecko's had to go
