WyldHrt -> Reptiles? (9/8/2010 12:08:04 AM)

Anyone else have herps as pets? I've kept boas and pythons in the past, and currently have 2 geckos, one 'snow morph' leopard gecko and one very grumpy crested gecko.

First up, my snow leopard, Little Shit... aka 'Piggie', so named because he eats everything that hits his food dish and moves slower than he does, LOL

Next up, Blush. I blame his 'permagrumpy' on PTSD, as I found him cowering in a hide in a local pet store. His 'roomie' was twice his size, and the employees had no idea that male crested cannot be housed together. He's a plain guy, and would never have sold.

Good call, then. The bigger pythons eat... well, not mice [;)]

Now you know why I currently keep insectivores... no fuzzies on the menu [;)]

Oldest keeps a Ocellated Lizard named Dino, and Youngest is pulling for a Corn Snake.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Reptiles? (9/8/2010 4:15:33 AM)

If you DO get a python, Ball pythons are a really good choice. they're pretty, hardy, really have a good temprament and they dont get huge.

5' or so tops.

Burmese are popular but face it, what are you going to do with a 22 foot, 300# snake in 10 years?

BAD choice

Hillwilliam -> RE: Reptiles? (9/8/2010 4:16:40 AM)

When I get a bit ahead, I'm going to get a Jackson's chameleon.

DarkSteven -> RE: Reptiles? (9/8/2010 4:51:17 AM)

Not exactly a pet, but I do have several snakes in the back yard.

LaTigresse -> RE: Reptiles? (9/8/2010 6:34:02 AM)

Like Steven, I have all sorts of odd things in my yard.

This year, I discovered a very large, black rat snake, living in the flower bed between the house and garage. Very large. We have all sorts of bull snakes and garter snakes, even a cute little bright green racer I see on occasion. Loads of toads and frogs, some really cute little green tree frogs come out in the evening and climb all over the side of the house.

BUT..........there will be none living IN my house. I prefer, furry and cuddly, for pets.

peppermint -> RE: Reptiles? (9/8/2010 8:34:22 AM)

We had 3 red eared turtles before the great escape.  (damned neighborhood dogs running loose)  Now we keep a desert tortoise named Archibald because his shell is arched and he's bald.  My sons kept assorted garter snakes in the house for the winter.  My youngest was terrified when he grabbed the tail of the gecko he's just gotten for Christmas and he was left with a wiggling tail in his hand.

And here I just thought it was sports cars....

bellesoumise -> RE: Reptiles? (9/8/2010 10:00:02 AM)

I can think of a few people I wouldn't mind terrorizing in ten years.

Loud stereos in the sports cars, also compensating for something...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Reptiles? (9/8/2010 10:24:49 AM)

Those are some beautiful lizards, Wyld!! I would love to have a turtle habitat someday, I really love turtles.

juliaoceania -> RE: Reptiles? (9/8/2010 10:28:03 AM)

There was a guy I was dating when I was in my 20s. He somehow got a hold of a "pet" rattlesnake. He had me come over and watch while he fed it a mouse. I never went out with him again, he was really fucking cute... 6 foot 5, curly brown hair, beautiful eyes, but I have a rattlesnake hard limit.

TheRaptorJesus -> RE: Reptiles? (9/8/2010 10:50:49 AM)

I only keep mammals as pets!
