I've posted before, but not much, mostly because other people express what I want to express, and I don't see a point in creating an echo in the forums.  ;)

Seriously, y'all are a great bunch of people, and just reading, I feel like I'm learning lots.

I once spent a year in a chat channel just lurking. It was thrilling in a deep dark way. I got to know all about the people in the channel, when they would be online. It was like watching and in a weird way being part of an interactive soap opera. Someone else posted that it is an addiction to reading , but it is alot more than that. It is a way of getting the vicarious thrill of all the other peoples lives while still protecting yourself.

Most of the time I just read the posts without bothering to say anything. Besides, Tikk does enough posting for both of us.

BadMan, 66 posts in two weeks hardly qualifies as lurking.  (Edited: Make that 67 now!)

Also, there's a big difference between people who RARELY post and people who NEVER post.  I was talking about the people who NEVER post.  Those are the real lurkers.  Most of the people who have confessed to lurking on this thread have posted several times before.

Anyway, I didn't mean this as an inquisition; I was just curious as to why someone would take the time to READ in the forums but not to WRITE.

Lordandmaster...I at one time used to come on and post almost daily...there always seemed to be some topic or another I had interest..or knowledge..or just plain random thoughts about....I tried to be not only honest but with humor and some poking at others to speak up....then one fateful day...without having the whole story about a situation....well let us just say...can you put yourself in the place of thoses who had no choice when we dropped the bomb on them....it was quite an eye-opener for me...people can and do have a very vicious way of attacking some on here....I didn't die..but I was wounded....but my strength was in my knowledge of the situation...therefore I came back to this site...(opinion being..it's one of the best for uncencored diloge)....in any case...if you want to express that some lurk without comment...then I'm guilty....I'm much more reserved in giving opinion or thoughts on here anymore...but I do read with a vengence...I read all the time...knowledge to me is more important than throwing out my two cents on every topic...but to read those topic....most times...priceless....I didn't throw away the minds of those who express themselves here....just tempered my view of some....I can only guess as to how someone new to this site and the posts view what they see....now I'll go back in the shadows and lurk some more...

Well, for myself, I rarely post simply because most of the threads tend to be 'basher threads'. When something interesting comes along that I feel I really have something to say that may make a difference, then I post an opinion on it. Otherwise, I read it, and then leave.

I am thinking that probably it is wiser to listen and observe..but what can I say, I have been told I tend to have a smart big mouth...So we all will of course follow our own path..be it lurker or pontificator..as in all life there are always two sides to make a whole...Tempting

I read a lot of things, watch a lot of things on TV.
So far the Encylopedia Britannica, History Channel, and nightly news, haven't seemed concerned that I haven't contributed.
Next time I go to the art gallery, maybe I'll take a paint set.......

Not everything requires or inspires comment.
At least they are browsing.

Cant we call them all casual observers or something instead of lurkers it sounds so much nicer when I hear lurker think dirty old man hiding in a bush.

I have a friend who designs message boards for a living and he always says : ''The writers mean everything and the readers mean nothing''  I know this sounds harsh, but he swears by it. LMAO!

I probably wouldn't have lurked so long after my first couple of post, if I hadn't kept getting my post eaten by the "You have logged out".

Now, I only lose about half of 'em. [:)]
