Part  of its the entitlement mentality. Some people wont leave their couch when they believe that Obama is going to pay their mortgage for them, give them free government cheese and practically unlimited unemployment benefits.

Why do you think the government or the unions would ever allow anyone to sell you a cheap car?

what fantasy world are you living in?

Excuse me?

The larger society does not recognize that there are those who live on a very low income.

Why do the cable companies think they can sell us an everything package for $103?

How about a cell plan, where the cheapest plan is still too expensive?

How about new cars that cost more then my house did?

Where is corporate America on this one?

Maybe I am doing something wrong on stretching my income.

Utilities-  have very little grasp that people are poor.   Taxes too.  Insurance?  even worse.

If we truly have poverty then we would have low prices to lure in the tight dollars into corporate America.   We would have good customer service.  Even the $ of the little people would be of interest.

PaHunk, we need to change the fundamental policies in this country especiually those "free-trade" policies and "Lobbyists" in Washington.
Selling cheap goods to the American consumers works only as long as those consumers have money to buy them.
What happens when those cheap goods become "expensive" because people aren't making the money they were before?
When people are touting "penny stocks" it's time to get out of the stock market! "THUD!"

That is no exaggeration.   When I bike ride to the credit union- I peek at the SUV prices on a new car lot.    The sticker price is more then I paid  for my house 3 years ago.   Tho I did buy a foreclosure that needed and needs work. (I put 20% down)

So my mortgage- is likely cheaper then payments on a new car.

I do not know where they get the numbers from.

The economy will not be fixed.   Take your average wage of the households in your zip code.   Until- and unless- the house hold income goes up- it will not support many of todays retail prices.

D.C. I went to a business school in New England.
Look at "Nafta", it's been nothing but a *DISASTER* for working class people in the U.S.
Now, you can't even get those "on the left" to admit that it was Bill Clinton who signed it into law.
We in the U.S. need to hold our govt. responsable when they make terrible mistakes like this!
If Bush 41 or any other president was the one to sign this pos into law it would have been an awful mistake! It doesn't matter who did it we need to get out of it!

MY RESPONSE BEFORE STANDS...Simply put so you can understand it, the agreement was in the works and SIGNED  before Clinton took office, It might have become law after he took office, but you are ignoring daddy shrubs  putting it into place.Stop being so bloody  minded and arrogant. If you are passing blame on NAFTA,include the right people or continue to be thought of as dumbasses
much like blaming obama for the monumental fuck ups of baby shrubs regime.
You change the goalposts everytime you get something wrong,
I bet you would want to keep  the oil supplies from canada. you are a hypocrite and very very ignorant about the situation

I couldn't care less which of them signed NAFTA into law. It is a piece of destructive legislation to the country.

If you folks put half as much energy into finding solutions and motivating elected officials and representatives to find solutions as you do pointing the finger at "the other guy" we'd be done with it by now.

Lets recap:

We get a rush of shoddy legislation.   We have had both parties in power.

Each cycle we get a rush of shoddy legislation.

What does this boil down to, in regards to the 2 ruling parties?

WHAT?

D.C. that's part of the problem right from the start of it. It meets all five criteria of a "Treaty" according to State Dept. rules which requires a two thirds vote in the Senate!
Yet, they called it an "agreement" to get it passed because they *knew* it couldn't get 67 votes in the Senate!
But if you look at the face of it, it is in fact a "Treaty."

Out of mild curiosity, what economy are most of you living in? Its definitely different than the one i know. Reducing prices for corporate american wont reduce what they already have you spending at the register. Prices wont "come down" no matter what. You are already paying it... even though you are screaming... they wont be going down at all. The most that will happen is corporate greed will continue to flourish.

Case in point. Groceries went up after Katrina because of the refineries being damaged and gas prices skyrocketing ( if you want to believe what corporate america said about all that). Those refineries are working again, and have been for some time. Gas prices by the barrel have dropped significantly. Yet have any of you seen prices drop on the shelves?

Didnt think so.

A masterful stroke, Lucy. Few dare to invoke TOS 7.3.6.

Popeye has been adequately warned. He must now cease and desist his pursuit of stupidity.

Eh, I don't know much about it (although I recall hearing some Candians worried that american investors were gonna use tricky shit to purchase their groundwater), but I've always thought of it as a treaty. Didn't they do the same with Vietnam, declare it Police Assistance or something to avoid the war requirements? And recently there's been 'unlawful combatants' to avoid Geneva...mebe ya could get through some sort of amendment to stop them doing that sorta shit, Supreme Court could check it somehow? I dunno......anyways....Lucys assertion that it was signed before Clinton, does seem pretty damn bulletproof. Unless she's making shit up....that'd be like blaming Lisbon on Cameron.

Actually.....yeah, I googled it, it was the work of, on the american side, Bush I, so your partisan shit fails in this case....

Think maybe you are getting nafta confused with bringing China to favored nation status and inclusion in the WTO. Nafta on the whole was good for America. It saved the Auto Industry from being sent offshore. If other industries and the gov't would have a % North American content in all their products then you'd not have to legislate jobs to stay here. They would automatically.

Anything that actually helps workers in Mexico helps US workers as a consequence. The pool of illegals to choose from to lower wages in the US will be lower which will lead to more Amercians having jobs.

Business is incapable of doing anything for the common good without stimulus from Workers or the Govt. Sitting and hoping Bill Gates or Warren Buffet are going to make the right decisions and be patriotic is lunacy. We need strong gov't regulation along with strong workers unions to make sure Business behaves.
