Oh, my beautiful liar.
Oh, my precious whore.
My disease,
My infection.
I am so impure. . .

"Well my name's John Lee Pettimore
Same as my daddy and his daddy before..."

Steve ”Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.” Earle

^5 on the TVZ love. Dude may have been driven to school in a limousine but he was a more authentic heartbroken cowboy than almost anybody else I can think of.

My own context-free moment of clarity at the mo' is from Elvis Costello:

Well the Japanese got Jesus robots telling teenage fortunes
For all we know or all we care they may as well be Martians
They say gold paint on the palace gates comes from the teeth of pensioners
And they're so tired of shooting protest singers that they hardly mention us

(from Tokyo Storm Warning)

"There's an empty space inside my heart
Where the weeds take root
So now I'll set you free
I'll set you free

Slowly we unfurl
As lotus flowers
'Cause all I want is the moon upon a stick
Just to see what if
Just to see what is."

"I will hold the candle, till it burns up my arm
I'll keep takin' punches, until their will grows tired
Oh I will stare the sun down, until my eyes go blind
Hey I won't change direction, and I won't change my mind

how much difference does it make
how much difference...

I'll swallow poison, until I grow immune
I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room

How much difference
How much difference does it make..."

I picked the morning paper off the floor
It was full of other people's little wars
Wouldn't they like their peace
Don't we get bored
And we call for the three great stimulants
Of the exhausted ones
Artifice, brutality and innocence
Artifice and innocence
No tanks have ever rumbled through these streets
and the drone of planes at night has never frightened me
I keep the hours and the company that I please
And we call for the three great stimulants
Of the exhausted ones
Artifice, brutality and innocence

The Three Great Stimulants - Joni Mitchell

Joni is always good.
I used to date a lady who said I was this song:

"I looked a Coyote right in the face
On the road to Baljennie near my old home town.
He went runnin' through the whisker wheat
Chasing some prize down.
And a hawk was playing with him.
Coyote was jumping straight up and making passes.
He had those same eyes just like yours -
Under your dark glasses,
Privately probing the public rooms,
Peeking through keyholes in numbered doors
Where the players lick their wounds,
And take their temporary lovers
And their pills and powders to get them through this passion play.
No regrets, Coyote,
I just get off up away.
You just picked up a hitcher,
A prisoner of the white lines on the freeway"

"She said, ‘I’m home on shore leave,’
though in truth we were at sea
so I took her by the looking glass
and forced her to agree
saying, ‘You must be the mermaid
who took Neptune for a ride.’
But she smiled at me so sadly
that my anger straightway died

If music be the food of love
then laughter is its queen
and likewise if behind is in front
then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
and attacked the ocean bed."

See me (Within the light)
Flowing (Take me to you)
Like the river to the sea
You come down (I'm in the light)
You cover (Pull me to you)
And the waves rush over me

Flow - Sade

Now I think I understand, how this word can overcome a man,
Like a friend we saw it through, in the end I gave my life for you.

Drive boy dog boy
Dirty numb angel boy
In the doorway boy
She was a lipstick boy
She was a beautiful boy
And tears boy
And all in your innerspace boy
You had
hands girl boy
and steel boy
You had chemicals boy
I've grown so close to you
Boy and you just groan boy
She said comeover comeover
She smiled at you boy.

Jimmy buffet

Were you born an asshole?
Or did you work at it your whole life?
Either way it worked out fine
'cause you're an asshole tonight.
Yes you're an A S S H O L E...
And don't you try to blame it on me.
You deserve all the credit.

Picture perfect memories scattered all around the floor,
reaching for the phone coz I cant take it anymore
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind,
To me it happens all the time

Someone put a lock on this old door
It's been beaten up and used and more
It's been kicked a hundred thousand times
Keeping all the memories behind

If you read the lines between the paint
Look beyond the cracks that store away
It's hidden in the windows of the walls
Right behind the eyes that saw it all

Given all the facts of circumstance
I did not believe that a romance
Would show itself in all this dark and blue
That's the only place I ever knew

You put me outside my safety-zone
Outside all the lines that made my home
To find out that no one really lives
Without giving what it is you give

A miracle looking in my life
A mirror-ball showing me all these faces
A miracle looking in my life, after all
A miracle looking in my life
A mirror-ball showing me all these faces
A miracle A miracle A miracle

Ilse DeLange - Miracle
