Like a flower waiting to bloom
Like a lightbulb in a dark room
I'm just sitting here waiting for you
To come on home and turn me on

Like the desert waiting for the rain
Like a school kid waiting for the spring
Im just sitting here waiting for you
To come on home and turn me on

Turn Me On - Norah Jones

"On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime

She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolor in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came

In the year of the cat"

Hey you ! out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old, can you feel me
Hey you ! Standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles, can you feel me
Hey you ! don't help them to bury the light
Don't give in without a fight.
Hey you ! out there on your own
sitting naked by the phone would you touch me
Hey you ! with your ear against the wall
Waiting for someone to call out would you touch me
Hey you ! would you help me to carry the stone
Open your heart, I'm coming home

Hey You - Pink Floyd

I think everyone has instances in time where some random song clip would best describe the current moment. . . at least I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.  So I thought I'd create a forum post and see who else says, "Hey, that reminds of this song!"

(Please: Keep the postings limited to just the most relevant aspect of the tune.)

So, in relevance to this first posting I submit the following:

He says, "Son, can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete.
-Billy Joel / Piano Man

_LT

Actually that reminds me of another Billy Joel song, one that managed to get him soundly booed at his first concert off of Long Island. He opened for Black Oak Arkansas and sang an atrocity called the "John Wayne Blues" where he imitates JW. Totally awful, as was the rest of his set. I fucking hate his music!

Its a shame the lines after that are so banal!

Looking at your statement under hey you ... got me thinking of these lyrics... not quite sure why

Shut your eyes and listen to the colours of your mind
Easy answers
Give yourself a breath of air, let your soul unwind
Easy answers
You don't have to say a word, you got dick to say
'Cause no-one ever said there's gonna be an easy way
Easy answers
Find them anywhere
Easy answers
Ain't nobody care
Easy answers
I don't wanna know

Here's the audio from the day the music died (what a grim fucking day that was):

"I wanna take you on a kind of inebriational travelogue here...

but Christ I got my lips around a bottle and
my foot on the throttle and I'm standin' on the corner
standin' on the corner like a 'just in town'
jasper, on a street corner with a gasper lookin'
for some kind of Cheshire billboard grin
stroking a goateed chin, and using parking meters
as walking sticks on the inebriated stroll
with my eyelids propped open at half mast"

Which brings me back to some of my favorite RW images and melodies:

"They disembarked in 45
And no-one spoke and no-one smiled
There were too many spaces in the line.
Gathered at the cenotaph
All agreed with hand on heart
To sheath the sacrificial Knives.

But now,
She stands upon Southampton dock
With her handkerchief
And her summer frock,
Clings To her wet body in the rain.
In quiet desperation, knuckles
White upon the slippery reins
She bravely waves the boys Goodbye again.

And still the dark stain spreads between
Their shoulder blades.
A mute reminder of the poppy fields and graves.
And when the fight was over
We spent what they had made.
But in the bottom of our hearts
We felt the final cut. "

if i'm drowning within your open sea
save me, save me
if i'm lost within your strange anatomy
talk to me, talk to me
if i'm on fire and i'm melting in the heat
touch me, touch me
if i'm tangled in your raw philosophy
then you better walk with me
walk with me

if i'm dancing through your passages and fall
catch me, catch me
if i'm screaming in your sky and tell you all
hear me, hear me
if i'm feigning coherence and calmness
laugh with me, laugh with me
if i tremble at your close proximity
then you better believe me
believe me

This little conversation
Well it's over very soon
And I watch in admiration
From my corner of the room.
They shine on you with starry eyes...
They rain a friendly storm.
Like kids around a christmas tree
And then you smile all nice and warm
These little conversations
If I tried my very best
You know I never could say anything
In twenty words or less.
Somewhere, sometime, down the line
Someday I may confess,
And tell you all...thats all

In your room
Where time stands still
Or moves at your will
Will you let the morning come soon
Or will you leave me lying here
In your favorite darkness
Your favorite half-light
Your favorite consciousness
Your favorite slave

In your room
Where souls disappear
Only you exist here
Will you lead me to your armchair
Or leave me lying here
Your favorite innocence
Your favorite prize
Your favorite smile
Your favorite slave

Not the lyrics so much, but rather the mood suggested by the music:

ColdBlue Lifeless Deathless Illuminated bythe machines That hold you onthisside

Which, for me, is terror.

What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?

"I can't do the talk, like the talk on TV
And I can't do a love song, like the way it's meant to be.
I can't do everything, but I'll do anything for you.
I can't do anything, 'cept be in love with you!
And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be.
All I do is keep the beat... and bad company.
Now all I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme"

When the moment comes and the gathering stands and the clock turns back to reflect
On the years of grace as those footsteps trace for the last time out of the act
Well this way of life's recollection, the hallowed strip in the haze
The fabled men and the noonday sun are much more than just yarns of their days.

From the finest folk song ever written...
