Ha, you funny white folk arguing about color - you crack me up, thanks.

We tend not to go to rallies, not historically good for us.

Marches - yes, rallies - no.

Carry on.

And, actually counting? lol.

Yes, those "democratics" have to watch that, I hear sometimes they even make up terms.

BBBTBW -> RE: In Search of People of Color (at a "TEA party rally") (9/14/2010 6:30:02 AM)

I think the point that most people are missing is that MOST *people of color* don't think of themselves or anyone else in terms of skin color. We think of people in terms of them being people. It's the radical few (as in most occasions)that cause the stirups.

The person that said Black People are the ones that want to keep racism alive is sadly mistaken. He/she is the type of person that buys into radical rhetoric.

*The term People of Color is used loosely because all people have color.

I know why youre opposed to counting them - in past posts you have denied there are ever any minorities at Tea Party rallies at all.

There are so few minorities at Teabagger fapfests as to make no difference. I'll bet what few black folk are caught on film were just wandering through on their way to somewhere else, or else just watching fat ugly honkies make asses of themselves.

In case you didn't actually see the video ... both the interviewer and every single person he interviewed were "people of color".

They were poking fun at the "there are no people of color at TEA party events".

I'm not sure DK got that either.

I watched it. And I got the irony. Look in the backgrounds. A sea of pasty-faced bad dressers.

And you are a pasty-faced good dresser?

and, btw, I'm glad that you and your buddies have super-duper high resolution eyes that can determine the race of every single member there ... especially when if you watch it in HD, it's difficult even to see most of the people in the background.

Any of you guys work with Abbey Sciuto? [:D]

I'll stand by it. Its a youtube video. Do I know that they aren't paid? Do I know anything about the people that put it together? If you are wanting to be that blind and follow along with anything you read or see then go for it. I know what I have seen when I have protested "rallies"

So, you now admit that there are "People of Color" in the background?

And your argument now is "there ain't enough of them"? (see Kirata's multiple comments)

Of course, this begs the question ... if I had taken your position, and you had found the people, then you would have said that I had "lied".

So ... would you classify your earlier comments as "a lie" or "being blind"?

You flat out made up as many people of color as you found. Now I've watched the silly little video twice and the point the media has made still stands, the racial makeup of these rallies is statistically significant in who is underrepresented.

I'm really sorry, but you are clueless here, DomKen.

And your biases shine in this thread.

The video was made by the Media Research Center, a conservative organization to show that the "no people of color" meme that you and your ideological compatriots attempt to sling is bullshit.

They did it by having "people of color" ask, and answer the question, mostly claiming "no, no people of color here!", when both they and the interviewer were doubtless "people of color".

They were being sarcastic and/or playing at satire to say a few things:

1.  Color is not the issue.  The policies of the government is the issue.

2.  We are part of a color blind organization.

3.  The lefty and media attacks - calling people in the TEA parties all racists - is bullshit.

And ... you ... just .... don't .... get ... it.

juliaoceania -> RE: In Search of People of Color (at a "TEA party rally") (9/14/2010 11:10:38 AM)

I would be interested to know a few things about those being interviewed... were they random "colored" people (god that term is so fucking racist in and of itself IMO) or were they recruited/rounded up to produce this piece of propaganda (btw, propaganda does not mean "lie" necessarily). I am suspicious of these sorts of clips as representing "reality".

I am working on a new media project this semester, and we are looking at the ways people use clips like this to represent political agendas, and they are not always "reality". It is kinda like Fox news showing clips of different marches and protests as if they represented some protest they support (which they have done, btw)

servantforuse -> RE: In Search of People of Color (at a "TEA party rally") (9/14/2010 11:17:53 AM)

At least people of color are welcome to attend tea party rallies. That is not the case with the political black caucus where caucasions are excluded. Now that is a racist group.

1:51 (guy walks into the right side.  White T shirt, brown shorts.
1:55 (guy in background between the two guys being interviewed)
2.12 (guy sitting on the wall of the pool, far left side)

If you look at the clip the "people of color" walking through the clip might not be a part of this get together. Washington DC is a very well traveled spot, tourists of all descriptions go there, not all of those filmed were necessarily taking part in this rally. To represent them as such could be deceptive....

They have plenty of groups where black people are excluded... Skull and Bones is one...

I wonder how many people from historically repressed backgrounds are C-streeters?

Never heard the phrase "exception proves the rule" I guess.

As I've said before I'm sure there are people associated with the tea party who aren't racists but the fact is that anyone attending a tea party event will have no problem finding overt racists. Or have you forgotten the Obama as witch doctor image? The leader of one of the major tea party groups writing a vile parody of the NAACP? The fact the whole thing got started by Dick Armey?

As to your claims about the organization
1) strange how the policies only started to matter when the President changed party.
2) then why doesn't the group even remotely match teh national demographics?
3) Find me these claims. I've seen plentuy of statements that there is the appearance of racism at tea party events. I've never seen or heard any claim that all tea party members were racists except when the guilt by association meme that the cons pushed so hard in 2008 was turned against them. Or have you forgotten that simply associating with someone makes you the same (or at least it does if the accused is not a conservative)?
