No, I don't see the value in having an exclusionistic perspective- saying "if a person who professes to be a slave acts in X, Y and Z manner, that person will be eliminated from our community."

Sounds like a lot of churches I know....

Every group will of course develop customs about how one interacts with slaves, like when are you allowed to approach them and in  what manor do you address them, and when do you need to ask the master's permission etc. This will also improve the experience in my opinion, and again nothing  is set in stone. The group will develop customs that work, that most people see the value in, and that sets the right atmosphere.

You realize there are already groups which do this exact thing, right? Rather like the Masons, only D/s influenced.

Its a symbol of great importance,as important as a wedding ring.

Does one have to wear these items to belong to Another....I dont believe so.

slave bishop is slave bishop with or without a collar.
she is also My partner with or without wearing a ring.

I prefer she wear them out in public, not only for My personal pleasure but she should be proud to show Ownership.
Is it a hard fast rule that she must at all times....no.

I actually have a couple collars for her depending on the day and where W/we go decides the collar she wears.

There are other ways to show Ownership, like the tattoo of Me on her arm and the "S" brand on her shoulder.
Hmmm...I think I might be a little territorial over her....lol

It's been quite interesting reading how others regard collars and *symbols* in general.
I wear a ring given to me by my husband, even though he is now dead, also a ring given by a partner who is no longer a *partner* but a dear friend.
I wear a bracelet given to me by the daughter of close friend. I keep and display poems written for me by my children.
I have a place where I display twigs and stones given to me by my grandchildren.
I wear a collar given to me by my Master and a bracelet from him also.

These things are invested with meaning because they were given to ME with ME in mind.... they are tangible, something I can see and touch.....something that evokes thoughts, memories, reminders....just as a smell, a sight, a piece of music can.
WE invest them with meaning..the *involved* persons, be it a grandchild or a Master......other than that .....they are *items*.

It matters little that others do not know what they signify because every relationship is utterly personal and unique.

Wearing a wedding ring, a collar, a crucifix or any outward symbol says very little about a person in truth and in my own (maybe limited) experience, humans and their relationships are far too complex to rely on physical symbols to make any assumptions.

Is it as important as a wedding ring?  I think many would disagree.  A collar is certainly not a symbol of a legally binding act.  A binding act, perhaps.  But one much more easily broken than a marriage.

damn, grammar edit
